iLounge claims that Apple will be the sole vendor of the dock connector. According to its sources, Apple has stopped sharing the upcoming spec with third-party accessory manufacturers ahead of the September 12 launch.
Furthermore, Apple will be ready to sell its own dock connector adapter, which will enable users to connect their 30-pin dock accessories with the new spec. Yet it has its price.
iLounge's sources aren't the only ones to claim Apple will offer an adaptor with the new specs. iMore reported earlier in July that Apple has that part ready to go, just like it did for the MagSafe 2 transition.
One source claims Apple will limit its competition in this manner, and will generate revenue of $100 million for every 10 million dock connector adapters it sells for the expected price of $10. The first $100 million in revenue is projected to be reached by the end of this year.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
