How to Know If Someone Blocked You on WhatsApp?

In one way or another, we all have experienced being blocked in just about any instant messaging apps or social media services available. There are quite a varied number of reasons why we would end up in some person's "black list." It is either you have said something that is somehow treated to be offensive, or perhaps the blacklister just find your very existence annoying or something that they could live without. Those are just some of the reasons why would you receive the "block" hammer. Despite of the reasons, it is never a good feeling. What if someone has chosen to block you from the ever-popular SMS app, WhatsApp? In today's tutorial, we will be teaching you How to Know If Someone Blocked You on WhatsApp.

How to Know If Someone Blocked You on WhatsApp?

Well, not many people know this but there is actually an FAQ with regards to the matter of whether someone has blocked you on WhatsApp. But since we are always inclined to be nice, we will bring it to your attention for your convenience. There are actually two strong indicators that will enable you to know if someone from your contact list has blocked you on WhatsApp.

  • First factor is that you will not be able to see the blacklister's  "last seen at.." login information or their "online" indicator in the Chat window. However, this is not actually a foolproof indicator since based on our previous WhatsApp tip, you can easily toggle your "last seen at.." information and set it to OFF.
  • WhatsApp Chat Settings 01 How to Know If Someone Blocked You on WhatsApp?

  • The second factor, when you send a message to any contact that has blocked you, it will always show one check (indicating that the message has been sent) but the second check mark (indicating that the message has been delivered) will never be displayed. Two check marks mean that the message has been sent and delivered successfully. If you have sent a message and it only shows one check, there is a good chance that you have been blocked. Refer to the image below on how these check marks look.
  • WhatsApp Check Marks How to Know If Someone Blocked You on WhatsApp?

While both of these factors suggests that you have been blocked, they are not 100% guaranteed to be foolproof. The developers of WhatsApp has intentionally made this matter to be ambiguous in order to protect the privacy of anyone who chooses to block someone. Any indicator that will outright tell if a person has blocked you will violate that person's privacy.

So in case you find out that you've been blocked, the golden question is: how do you get unblocked? Well, there is no one in this world that can lift your blacklist status but the person himself / herself. However, I'm sure that you ask nicely, if you could work things out.

Have you experienced being blocked on WhatsApp or any messaging app?

Some things to know about WhatsApp that I figured out on my
own. You register with this application based on your current mobile phone
number. If you were to change your phone number, the old phone number is still
active with the app. Another words, let’s say you have your cell phone and you
change the number. When you change your cell phone number, using the same
phone, the old cell phone number becomes inactive, meaning you can no longer be
contacted through this number, this number in essence becomes “disconnected”
where you are unable to make or receive phone calls or make or receive text
messages. However, whatsapp is an online app, where with your old phone number
you can still use whatsapp and have your profile active and make and receive
texts from this number (with whatsapp only). So, I had two different
smartphones (they were pay as you go phones where I would buy phone cards for
them). I created a new whatsapp profile with my new cell phone number and still
had my old phone number active with the app. This app was recommended to me by
a long distant boyfriend that I was involved with at the time. I met him in the
town that I worked in but he eventually moved to a different state. I felt very
serious about this guy and really wanted to be with him so much that I was
considering giving up my current life for a new life with him by moving where
he was. So, we communicated for four months using this app which at first, I
knew nothing about. There were problems developing in the communication between
us as time went on. I was questioning whether he had a new girlfriend and was
she checking the messages I was sending him, I was questioning the “online” and
“last seen” statuses on this app and what they meant, I was questioning whether
I was being blocked, I was questioning whether he was receiving my messages.
So, all these questions got answered after the relationship was ending and when
I discovered that I could answer my own questions with having two smartphones
and messaging myself with my old phone number with my new phone number. So….here
    is what I learned….

    1. Blocking on this app: You will know if you are being
blocked when the “online” and “last seen” status of the person you are talking
to is NO LONGER VISIBLE .Note…you may still be able to see their profile
picture and status and phone number. Even if you reinstall the app on your
phone, but in most cases of reinstalling the app on your phone you will see
their profile picture and status removed (meaning you may no longer be able to
see that information as well). You will also know if you are being blocked if
you try to add this person to a group chat, a message will pop up on your
screen when adding this person to your group chat the message will say that you
are not authorized to add this person to that particular group chat you are
trying to create. Also, if blocked, the message you send will ALWAYS have one
check to it. If a person unblocks you the message will NEVER be sent to that
person. If you want them to know what you are saying, you will have to wait
until they unblock you. If you are blocked and then the person decides to
remove you from their address book on their phone you will remain blocked. So,
no matter how many times you try to contact this person on whatsapp, they have
you blocked and they will NEVER receive your messages you send during this
    blocked period.

    2. What “online” and “last seen” means: “online” means that
the person has clicked on the whatspp icon on their screen and the whatsapp is
OPEN. It does not mean that they are reading your message or have even opened
your message. IT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE ON THE INTERNET SURFING THE INTERNET
(i.e. on facebook or check their gmail). THE ONLINE STATUS IS TIED TO BEING ON
WHATSAPP ONLY. So, when you open the whatsapp icon on your screen from your
phone the first thing you see is the list of your contacts. If someone has
wrote you a message you will see them on the top of your contact list and the
message with be in bold with a number and arrow next to it, the number
indicating how many messages you wrote. When this person is “online” it means
they have opened their whatsapp contact list in front of them, and then they
can CHOOSE to open and read your message but don’t necessarily have to.  Once they see that you wrote the message and
it is in bold, right then and there they can click and highlight you and your
message and delete it.  “Last seen” means
simply showing when they exited whatsapp, meaning when they closed the whatsapp
    window on their phone.

    3. One check mark vs. two and what it means: One check means
your message was sent but NOT RECEIVED. So, if you are blocked, the message on your
phone will always show ONE CHECK. Two checks means that the message was sent
and RECEIVED TO THE PHONE BECAUSE THAT PERSON IS CONNECTED TO WIFI OR 3G/4G.
DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE READ THE MESSAGE. What if the phone is turned off? Say
you send someone a message and you see one check on your message. More than
likely that the person’s phone is off or they do not have wifi or 3G/4G
connection (with these connections is how we get internet connection and that’s
how whatsapp works). Once the person turns on their phone and gets connection
then your message will show two checks. When the person opens the whatsapp on
their phone (like stated before) it will then show them “online” and then they
will see you wrote them, you will be towards the top of the list with your
message on their contacts list, your message and you being bold and they then can
click on your message where it will be opened and read and then they can choose
    to respond as they wish.

    4. What if my phone number was deleted from their phone? For
different reasons someone we were once close to can become distant and decide
they want to remove our phone number from their phone. Here’s what happens. He
deletes your phone number from his ADDRESS BOOK on his phone you will no long
appear on his contacts list for whatsapp. If he deletes you ONLY on whatsapp
and not on his address book in his phone….then you will still appear on his
contacts list on whatsapp but he would have to click on the upper right icon on
the contact list on whatsapp to see you listed there .REMEMBER…IF HE DELETES
WHATSAPP ON HIS PHONE, MEANING HE COMPLETELY DELETES HIS WHATSAPP ACCOUNT AND
REMOVES IT FROM HIS APPS, WHATS APP IS GONE FROM HIS PHONE YOU WILL NO LONGER
BE ABLE TO CONTACT HIM THROUGH WHATSAPP. TO KNOW IF HE NO LONGER USES WHATSAPP
GO TO YOUR ADDRESS BOOK ON YOUR PHONE AND SEE IF THE WHATSAPP ICON IS NEXT TO
HIS PHONE NUMBER IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK.  If you contact him and your number is deleted
HE WILL RECEIVE YOUR MESSAGE. Again, same situation as before, there is no guarantee
that he will actually OPEN AND READ your message. When he opens his whatsapp he
will see your message with your profile picture and YOUR PHONE NUMBER (because
he has deleted you from his address book so you are no longer stored in his
phone…..another words if you are Sara with phone number 900 455 5566…he will
store you as “Sara” or “Honey” or whatever (even a fake name if he is hiding
something….with your number 9004555566 in his phone. So when you were in his
phone and you wrote him on whatsapp you would appear as whatever he saved you
under like “Sara” or “Honey” or even a fake name. When he deletes you in his
address book you are no longer there. So you message him on whatsapp you and
will show up as your profile pic and your number 9004555566. Obviously, if he
has something to hide….or a new girlfriend….he can open whatsapp (appear
online), see that you wrote him from looking at his contacts list, with you
showing up and your phone number, then he can CHOOSE right then and there to
click on you and your message and DELETE it right away EVEN WITHOUT ACTUALLY
OPENING THE MESSAGE AND READING THE WHOLE THING….meanwhile appearing online the
whole time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CONTACT ME AT DISCOVER.AGAIN@YAHOO.COM IF YOU HAVE
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS APP. I RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED ALL OF THIS ON
MY OWN BECAUSE I WAS LITERALLY GOING CRAZY IN THIS RELATIONSHIP I HAD AND
NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THIS PERSON. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS TO BE
OTHERS GOING THROUGH WHAT I HAVE GONE THROUGH.

Another way that worked for me..I deleted the number from my phone contacts and after added it again. The status of the person who blocked me on whats app after updating appeared as “status unknown”. Checked it twice after with my friend-the same result. Good luck.

Here is the one and only proof:
Create a new group and add the person who maybe blocked you.
If they can’t join, then you are blocked.
    Otherwise he joins.

Hi there. I thought someone blocked me as I didn’t see them online anymore that day when usually they are and when I sent a msg it only had 1 tick beside it.. I tried creating a new group and added the person and straight away it said “(NAME) joined” and it shows him as a participant..What does this mean??

This is the best way, ever. I’m getting a popup after adding someone to a group (new group) that said: “… cannot be added”. And now my friend told me he blocked me, just to test. Amazing advice!

You can check if the person has updated their status.I think when you change your status, it is for everyone to see who has your number.
