Buzzes about the possibility that Apple might release a smaller, cheaper iPad Mini have certainly escalated to new heights for the past couple of months. With such massive amount of hype, it is not odd if one thinks that we will indeed see the release of a 7-inch tablet later this year. A new report surfaced indicating that the alleged iPad Mini will have no rear facing camera. More details after the jump.
A Chinese website called Apple.pro shared some photos of which was acquired straight from the popular Chinese micro-blogging site, Sina Weibo. The photos depict a device shell which is claimed to be for the long-rumored iPad Mini. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the photos is that the device plate doesn't have a hole for a rear facing camera. Check out the photos below:
As you can see, there is no holes to be found at the back plate of the purported iPad Mini. If this device does end up being legit, would it make sense for Apple to release a device with no back camera? This is considering of course that even the 4th-gen iPod touch had a rear facing camera. One could only assume that Apple is scrapping the back facing camera in order to reduce the manufacturing cost of the 7-inch Mini iPad.
But at the end of the day, there is a good chance that this is just one of those leaks that are meant to drum up hype and nothing more. There is the all too-familiar blurry and dark shots which indicate that the one who took them may have something to hide. And of course, there is the fact that the person who shared this doesn't have any track record with regards to any Apple insider information. At this point, the only thing we can do is speculate.
