Mac OS X Mountain Lion: Golden Master Released & App Store Accepting Submissions

D-Day is approaching, now Apple released the Mac OS X Mountain Lion Golden Master for developers and invited them to submit their Apps for review. This is good news for the developers, but also for every Mac-enthusiast: the release date is very soon now. Apple promised to release this new version in the month of July, without mentioning a specific date.

Release on Friday, July 20th?

Last month, during the WWDC in San Francisco, Apple announced the release for Mac OS X Mountain Lion for the month July. They didn’t mention a specific day, so every morning can be a surprise. The Golden Master version for developers is now released and history learns that the final release will be in about 2 weeks after that moment. That leaves us with a possible date of 23 July. But… When you have a look at all the release dates in the past years, most of them are on Friday, with the exception of last year since the release of Mac OS X Lion was on July 20th 2011, a Tuesday.

So my guess is a release on Friday, July 20th 2012. Let’s see what will happen!

Appstore Opened for Submissions

Apple asked the developers to submit their updated applications for review, so that apps are available in the Appstore at the moment of the official release of Mac OS X Mountain Lion.

Mac OS X Mountain Lion App Submission

Make sure your apps take advantage of the great new features in OS X Mountain Lion when the world’s most advanced operating system ships to millions of customers worldwide. Download OS X Mountain Lion GM seed and Xcode 4.4 GM seed, now available on the Mac Dev Center. Build your apps with these latest seeds, then test and submit for review. You can also submit iOS apps that take advantage of the new cross-platform Game Center Groups, so they’ll be available when OS X Mountain Lion ships.

Mac OS X Mountain Lion Golden Master

For those not familiar with the term ‘Golden Master’, this is typically the release version of software very close to the final release and indicating that final release date is coming very soon. Only registered Mac OS X developers can download this beta-version from Apple Dev Center.
The first comments of developers are very positive: Most of the developers that installed the Golden Master, find it running better. Specifically the dictation’s performance is more responsive and smoother.

Mac OS X Mountain Lion Features

Mac OS X Mountain Lion includes over 200 brand new features. Many of them are originated in iOS. This strategy will bring Mac OS X and iOS more closer than ever. New features include iMessage, Share Sheets, Notification Center, Notes, Game Center, Reminders, Dictation and enhanced iCloud integration.

Mac OS X Mountain Lion will be released at a price of $19.99 and will be available in the Appstore. So do you think Friday July 20th will be the accurate release date for Mac OS X Mountain Lion?
