The iPhone 5 will be presented in just six short weeks, along with the long-rumored iPad Mini, during a special Apple event scheduled for September 12, 2012, according to iMore’s sources.
This information comes from confidential Apple sources whose claims have been true for previous Apple events, Rene Ritchie highlights. The iPhone 5 will hit stores nine days later on a Friday morning, just like every other Apple iOS device, this time on September 21.
According to iMore the iPad Mini will also be the star of the Apple event, as well as the new iPod Nano, although its release date is unknown at this time. In addition, Apple will present the new iPod Touch without specifying any other information, but it will very likely be available in stores on the same date as the iPhone 5.
If the rumors are true then Apple is trying to renew its product release cycle. The iPhone 4S was presented last year on Tuesday, October 4, and it became available for purchase on October 14. The event was held 16 months after the introduction of the iPhone 4, and if the rumors are correct there will be only 11 months between the release of the iPhone 4S and the 5.
Peter Horwitz of iLounge also added his voice to reaffirm some of the rumors. His sources have proven to be reliable concerning the new iPad:
Apple’s current plan for the fourth-generation iPad is to release another relatively modest body tweak, which would keep the shape basically the same while introducing the new small Dock Connector, a rear-side microphone, and spec-improving/heat-reducing changes to the hardware inside. The rear-side mic might aid in noise cancellation or improve audio quality during rear video recording, and is apparently just like one found on the iPhone 5, between the camera and flash; prototype iPad minis apparently have a mic on the back in the same place.
The longer release schedule was the necessary step for a new, big fall product release, allowing Apple to re-position the iPhone at the top of the iPod family, which previously lead its holiday quarter. Apple also recorded its lowest quarter last year, before the launch of the iPhone 4S – a September release can balance that, and considering its third fiscal quarter sale numbers and Wall Street estimates an earlier launch date of the iPhone 5 is very likely.
As past quarter sales show, a launch near the end of a fiscal quarter pays back in full: Apple sold 17 million iPads during the April to June 30 timeframe, way over Wall Street’s estimations. If the iPhone 5 is launched in September, we should see an amazing holiday quarter.
As recent photos and video leaks of the iPhone 5 show, it looks like Apple is ready for an early release which also reaffirms the September release date, and the “coming this fall” will be true: autumn begins on September 22 this year. [Via iMore]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
