More than a week ago, the jailbreak community has once again been exploded with the release of the much anticipated iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak which supported almost all sorts of iDevices. To accommodate the new untethered exploit, the iPhone Dev-Team has been hard at work to update their other jailbreak tools as well. Thanks to the iPhone Dev-Team, PwnageTool, Redsn0w, cinject and Ultrasn0w have all received updates.
The Dev Team advises that if you have already installed the rocky-racoon exploit, there is no need to reinstall it unless you are experiencing some problems or simply want to use a different tool. The underlying untethered jailbreak (rocky-racoon) is pretty much the same to what is already installed by last week's tool such as Absinthe 2.0 and cinject. The only difference is the injection method that is offered by the tools.
This new version of Redsn0w can be utilized to jailbreak A4+earlier devices on iOS 5.1.1. In addition to that, it can also be used to inject the SAM unlock in case you were fortunate enough to take advantage of it while it was working. You can install rocky-racoon using Redsn0w via two methods:
- backup/restore method similar to Absinthe and cinject
- its traditional limera1n-based ramdisk install. If you have a lot of media on your A4 device (music, movies, TV shows, etc), then the ramdisk method is preferrred because it avoids any possibility of later problems related to syncing to iCloud (including Photo Stream and Music Match). The ramdisk method is not available for A5 devices or later because limera1n can’t be used. If you’d like to use redsn0w’s ramdisk method, just be sure to put the A4 device in DFU or Recovery mode before starting redsn0w (otherwise it will immediately start to use the backup/restore method).
PwnageTool also receives a significant update which offsets any possible sync issues but it is only compatible with A4+earlier devices. In case you don't know, PwnageTool is a tool that is used in Mac to avoid updating your baseband in case you rely on unlock methods such as Ultrasn0w. PwnageTool 5.1.1 will also jailbreak+untether the AppleTV2,1 5.0_2B206f.
Not much has been said with regards to this version of cinject but it was stated that it is pretty similar to cinject 0.5.3 tool. The Dev Team merely noted that this version has more updates included.
As with any later versions of Ultrasn0w, this version is merely an update to make the tool compatible with iOS 5.1.1. Again, UltraSn0w 1.2.7 doesn't support any new baseband so try not to get your hopes up.
