With the recent release of the new firmware, iOS 5.1.1, the jailbreak community is once again stirred. While the latest firmware can be jailbroken right from the get-go, the only solution available is a tethered one. Majority of the jailbreak community would rather have an untethered jailbreak, that's for sure. Fortunately, famed iOS exploit finder Pod2g is on the case and the progress is rather promising. And now, another update has been provided by Pod2g which further indicates that the upcoming iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak is close.
It was not long ago when Pod2g announced that he has successfully jailbreaken iOS 5.1 (untether) and has managed to make it run into his iPhone 4. And now more positive progress has been made as Pod2g announces on Twitterverse that he has successfully ran the unreleased jailbreak on the 3rd-gen iPad as well. This is obviously a big deal because if the jailbreak runs on the iPad 3 (A5) and iPhone 4 (A4), then it is safe to say that it will run on pretty much all iOS 5 supported devices, except for the Apple TV 2. This is a possibility that was confirmed by Pod2g himself.
For added vote of confidence, you can check out the video uploaded by Pod2g himself:
As you can see from the video, the jailbreak is almost done. Pod2g just needs to perform some housekeeping such as stabilizing the payload. He also said that he plans to try the jailbreak if it is going to work with iOS 5.1.1. So jailbreakers are advised not to update to iOS 5.1.1 until Pod2g provides his confirmation.
So when's the ETA of the new untethered jailbreak? According to Pod2g, it should take some weeks before the jailbreak is ready and incorporated into a user-friendly tool. As for those who are asking for a beta, you're out of luck because Pod2g won't be providing anything that resembles an iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak beta.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
