Ever since the iOS 5.1 has been released, people have been clamoring for an iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak for the firmware. Sure, iOS 5.1 has been jailbreakable right off the bat but we know that most users would rather have the convenience of having an untethered jailbreak. Well, here's a good news for all you untethered jailbreak faithfuls, Pod2g just made an announcement that will surely get you all excited.
Pod2g just announced on Twitter about an hour ago that his iPhone 4 is now running on iOS 5.1 untethered. This is certainly regarded as a good news because it has been a while since the iOS 5.1 has been released. And aside from the occasional updates from Pod2g, there hasn't been much action the jailbreak community has seen.
Heya! My iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 is now untethered :-)

So when is the release date for the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak? Well, nothing really concrete has been divulged by Pod2g as of now, simply the fact that his iPhone 4 is now running the latest untethered jailbreak. It should be safe to say that Pod2g has overcome the hard part of cracking the system, this is after an announcement a few days ago that he has found two big vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. This is certainly a big positive progress for the much awaited jailbreak solution.
After the results are in for the poll whether to release the jailbreak as soon as possible or to wait for iOS 6, it seems that Pod2g will now be inclined to release it right away. That is of course, after thorough testing and bug-squashing, it will likely then be passed on to either the Chronic-Dev or Dev-Team so the solution can be converted into a jailbreak tool. Stay tuned folks because we know that the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak is close.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
