Max Payne Mobile Heading to iOS & Android This Month [Confirmed]

When it comes to games, there is no doubt that one of the best genre-defining titles about a decade ago was Max Payne. Well-known as the game that pioneered the bullet-time gameplay mechanic, Max Payne captured gamers' attention with its film-noire charm and balls to the walls action sequences. Good news for mobile gamers for the iOS and Android because Max Payne will be seeing a re-release for both platforms.

The announcement came from no other than Rockstar Games themselves. Dubbed as Max Payne Mobile, the game will launch exclusively for the iOS platform on April 12th and about two weeks after that, the Android version will be launched on April 26th. For the iOS, Max Payne Mobile will support the following devices: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4, iPad 1, iPad 2 and the new iPad. There has been no word yet as to what Android devices will be supported but it should be announced by Rockstar shortly.

We’re pleased to announce that Max Payne Mobile will be available exclusively for iOS devices on Thursday, April 12th, with the Android version launching two weeks later on April 26th.

This isn't just a lousy port of Max Payne either as it has been optimized both for the iOS and Android and will be featuring revamped HD graphics, high-res textures, Social Club enabled and user-customizable controls. The last bit is especially crucial since we all know that touch-screen controls can be sometimes dodgy, but knowing Rockstar, we're sure that they can pull it off.

If anyone can recall, Rockstar also released Grand Theft Auto III on the iOS and Android for its tenth-year anniversary. And they did a bang-up job for that particular port, especially considering the complex controls of the game. The company is relying on Max Payne Mobile to recapture not only the old fans of Max Payne but new ones as well. [via RockstarGames]
