iPhone 4S Common Problems [Must Read Before You Buy]

Last year, the iPhone 4S was presented as state of the art, heavily hyped and very much anticipated, but during the time after the presentation some serious iPhone 4S Problems came up. Some issues were based on iOS 5, Apple reacted promptly and some of those issues are solved, but some are still there and are very annoying. We made an overview of the most common iPhone 4S problems.

Like the New iPad, and some earlier types of iDevices, the iPhone 4S had some heat-issues. This is mostly the fault of your battery. If this is the problem, you can get it replaced by Apple. You can also try to turn your apps off one by one, to see which one is causing overheating and the subsequent battery-drain. Also try to turn your 3G off to see if that might be the problem.

Rapid Battery Drain

After the launch, some problems came up concerning the battery life of the iPhone 4S. This issue is already solved after some updates. For the long run, this is probably not one of the specific iPhone 4S problems, but more a problem for those who are extremely heavy media or app users. In general, the battery life of the iPhone 4S is the same as the iPhone 4 and 3G. That is a big progress, since the iPhone 4S takes more and more energy with the use of newer techniques and apps.

Yellow Screen Tint of the Black iPhone 4S

It is very rare, but it happens. Due to the glue joining the screen-parts is not properly dried, the screen looks like the employees at Foxconn peed on it before shipping. You can get a new iPhone, if you are still within your warranty-time.

International Issues with Siri

This is not really an issue of the iPhone 4S, but more an iOS5 issue. In fact, Siri is only available for the iPhone 4S, so it is related to this. Officially, Siri is still in Beta, so everything doesn’t work like it should. Nevertheless, for some people it can be very annoying.

The misleading part of Siri is the fact that Apple is advertising Siri without telling the people that some of the databases for Siri do not have any information concerning other countries than the United States. Not finding a business near you, not able to tell the time in your country. Probably it will be better when Siri is out of the Beta-status.

Apple explains about this issue:

The more you use Siri, the better it will understand you. It does this by learning about your accent and other characteristics of your voice. Siri uses voice recognition algorithms to categorize your voice into one of the dialects or accents it understands. As more people use Siri and it’s exposed to more variations of a language, its overall recognition of dialects and accents will continue to improve, and Siri will work even better.

Sometimes Siri doesn’t understand the question or the context of the question. Very funny, but for people who want the iPhone to be a productivity tool and a time-saver, it is killing.

Microphone Failures

This issue is an ongoing and widespread problem. Some outgoing calls do not have audio. The person who is calling cannot hear the recipient. This problem is found with networks all around the globe. Surprising fact is that Apple never responded on these complaints, although the Apple Support Board contains over 2.500 people who have posted about this issue. When you have a closer look at the postings, the complainers didn’t had any luck by calling Apple Support. The only way to accomplish anything is to go to the Apple Store and exchange it for a different phone.

Ask Siri about the iPhone 4S Problems

With all these problems, one can ask himself: Is the iPhone 4S a big failure? Definitely no! But for the early adaptors, owning an iPhone 4S hasn’t been a very good experience. But most of the problems are already solved and the iPhone 4S stays a high-tech smartphone. Of course, Apple is not the only one facing these kinds of problems. But as the biggest smartphone producer, Apple gets all the heat!

Think about it, there are more iPhones sold per day (378.000) then people are born in the world (371.000). And if you want to ask Siri about the iPhone 4S problems, she probably will answer:

I don’t know. But I think there’s an app for that

Let’s just hope and pray that the new iPhone 5 will not have these issues, especially for the early adaptors!

We downloaded iOS 8 on our 4s and now we only see a gray screen when we try to use it. We tried to do a soft reboot by simultaneously pressing the home and sleep buttons and it’s turns off and then goes right back to the gray screen. Any ideas?

      Try this:
      Connect to iTunes >
Right Click on iPhone (on left list) > Click Backup
Its going to tell you that the “iPhone is locked with passcode, please try again later”
At that time you should be able to enter your screen lock passcode. Enter your passcode and it should work.

Are you currently jailbroken? What firmware are you currently on? If not jailbroken, you might want to delete the apps that crashes, then download and reinstall them again.

If that doesn’t take care of the problem, try resetting all of your settings. And as a last resort, do a full restore.
