There is no denying that Microsoft's foray into the home console industry has been a roaring success. As the Xbox 360 continues to command strong sales in the United States, what are the best games that Xbox fans can expect for the year 2012? The year has been rather dull for Microsoft's console but with the release of Mass Effect 3, one can only hope that things will get better. Well judging from the games that we can expect for the 360, fans are in for some gaming good time. Here are the Top 10 Upcoming Xbox 360 Games of 2012.
List of Most Anticipated Xbox 360 Games of 2012
Many will agree that this series, starring the ever-delectable Lara Croft, has already seen better days. This is why developer Crystal Dynamics has decided that the series needs a fresh new approach. Judging from the numerous footages of the game, this is indeed not the same Lara that we all know and love. The game looks to be more mature which is quite evident with its grittier visual style. Instead of guns blazing, Lara will have to rely on her survival skills as she explores a mysterious tropical island. Action-adventure fans will surely welcome Lara's return.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
I've played The Witcher 2 on the PC and I have to say that it is one of the best RPGs of this generation. Now 360 owners will now be able to experience the RPG goodness of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings as Developer CD Projekt RED brings their opus into Microsoft's console. You take the role of Geralt, a professional monster-hunter (and ladies man), as he takes on a world that is mature, corrupt, gritty and brutal. One of the best aspects of this game is the branching storyline. Depending on your choices, certain parts of the game can change significantly. Prepare for some deep role-playing experience, RPG fans.
Resident Evil 6
As if the world is not yet tired of killing zombies, one of the most popular gaming franchises is looking to return with two of its most prominent characters, Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield. For the first time ever, the series will cover many different locations across the globe. Fancy killing a zombified president of the U.S.? Or perhaps you want to deal with the latest virus outbreak in the Far East? From the looks of it, this is shaping up to be the most ambitious Resident Evil yet. And as a fan of the game, I couldn't be more excited.
The fact that it is published by Bethesda is enough to keep this game on most gamers' radar. What makes this game interesting is the fact that it involves the people responsible for past greats such as Deus Ex, Thief: Deadly Shadows and Arx Fatalis. Basically you play the character named Corvo who's framed for the assassination of the Empress. Corvo is not your typical badass because aside from being a master swordsman and infiltrator, he also possesses great supernatural powers. Your mission is to assassinate various high profile people but you will be able to do using many different approach.
Talk about bigger, better sequels, Borderlands 2 is looking to top its predecessor in just about every way. Much akin to Diablo, Borderlands 2 will feature an infinite supply of armaments which are randomly generated. This sequel will feature four new characters, a new massive world to explore (although it is still said to be in Pandora), new baddies to eliminate, new vehicles and will introduce a four-player coop mode. Developer Gearbox said that they were able to fix several problems with the first game including the lack of a compelling storyline. So expect Borderlands 2 to feature a more solid story.
Everyone's barcoded assassin, Agent 47 is back for more stealthy kills. Absolution opens up with the assassination of Agent 47's former International Contract Agency handler Diana Burnwood. The game will run using IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 engine and they said that they will be featuring the classic Hitman gameplay while introducing newer elements. If that's any indication, it is safe to say that you will be able to play the game depending on your preferred play style. Will you go in guns blazing? Or will you take the stealthy approach?
Max Payne 3
From the looks of it, it seems that Max Payne 3 will be ditching the film-noir feel of past games and the New York setting in favor of São Paulo, Brazil. As a third-person shooter, Max Payne is the one who pioneered the bullet-time gameplay mechanic in videogames. So you can definitely expect bullet-time to return for the series' third installment. In addition to that, a new multiplayer mode has been included as well. The several departure from old Max Payne games may put off old-time fans but we trust that Rockstar Games is fully capable of restoring this game into its former glory.
Easily one of the most highly-anticipated multi-platform game for this year. Definitely a big departure from the series' trademark underwater setting, BioShock Infinite takes players into a brand new flying city of Columbia. But the setting is not the only aspect that you should be excited about in Infinite because it is accompanied by some significant changes to the gameplay. While you can still deal pain to your enemies using many different weapons and superpowers, with the aid of the skyhook, you will be able to traverse the world using Columbia’s suspended railways. Another interesting addition is that your actions can affect the storyline itself. Check out the gameplay below and I dare you not get excited.
Assassin's Creed 3
Ubisoft's uber-popular historical open-world action adventure is once again coming for this year. But this isn't a spin-off or expansion, this is a full-scale new game with a new character, new setting and different time period. Excited yet? This time, players are in control of a half-English, half-Mohawk man named Connor Kenway as he get involved in the war between the Assassins and the Templars which is not set during the American Revolution. The new game will feature a new graphical engine which consequently brings improved visuals and character models into the table. Ubisoft claims that the game will be bigger than its predecessors and it is their most ambitious project yet.
How can we leave out the 360's flagship title and one of the most prominent games this generation? The only possible downside is that the next installment won't be developed by Bungie but instead by 343 Industries. But don't fret, 343 Industries has already proven their developing cred with titles like Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo Reach. Halo is known for its compelling storyline and of course not to mention its highly addictive multiplayer. Halo 4 will feature a whole new story arc (it is a planned trilogy) but it will still star the iconic Master Chief. Expect Halo 4 on this year's holiday season.
