It has been a while since the original Prey has been released. In case you don't know, Prey is a sci-fi first person shooter that has the main character to fight aliens who have abducted him. The original Prey was received rather well and it has been a commercial success. Now the sequel looks to do more than just your standard "shoot the aliens" fair. Prey 2 is a non-linear adventure that has placed you in the shoes of U.S. Marshall Killian Samuels who gets abducted and turns into an intergalactic bounty hunter. This game has a serious Blade Runner vibe going for it which is never a bad thing.
Any PC gaming enthusiast will know that MMORPGs are one of the staples of the platform. As you might know already, despite its waning number of subscribers, World of Warcraft is the reigning king. Tera Online is one of the noteworthy title that looks to offer a great alternative MMORPG experience. What makes it different is the fact that it works like a third-person action game rather than the standard clickfest MMO. Movement and positioning is vital if you want to survive the enemy attacks. The graphics are stunning as well for an MMORPG.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon franchise is one of the longest running tactical shooters. The series is known for its squad management which certainly helped it earn its tactical nature. In contrast to games like the Call of Duty series, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier encourages the use of tactics and intel-gathering. Future soldier boasts increased responsiveness of the AI with regards to the main character's movement and shooting. Much like past Ghost Recon games, Future Soldier will let you make use of state of the art technology.
Due to the extreme popularity of the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients (Dota), Valve has decided that it needs a sequel. And now with the help of IceFrog himself, one of the lead designers of Dota 1, a standalone sequel is bound to be released this coming July. The game is currently under a closed beta phase but it is still unclear what will be the final business model for the game. As with Dota 1, it is a multiplayer game where each player selects a "hero" in a team combat with the objective of destroying the opposition's base.
Often described as Diablo with guns, Gearbox's multiplayer shooter Borderlands has been a commercial success as it has seen a good deal of expansion packs and downloadable contents. Now the loot craze continues with Borderlands 2 as it gets better and meaner. With a new sweeping campaign, improved player coop, more skills, and more guns, bazillions of them. Expect a game with more emphasis on the story and humor. Slated for release this September and it is now available for preorder.
Max Payne 3
If you have been gaming on the PC more than a decade, then you will have no doubt played Max Payne by Finnish developers Remedy Entertainment. The game was considerably praised due to its use of noir storytelling devices and is known as one of the pioneers of the bullet-time mechanic. Now after such a long time, the franchise is about to be brought to life by none other than Rockstar Games, of the Grand Theft Auto fame. Along with the return of the classic bullet-time mechanics, new gameplay additions such as over-the-shoulder aiming and cover mechanics will be added. Multiplayer is added as well.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm
About two years ago, Blizzard released Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, the sequel to one of the most popular real-time strategy games (or should I say PC game) in existence, Starcraft. Now with the second episode to the planned trilogy, Heart of the Swarm aims to continue the story but this time through the perspective of the Zerg faction. In addition to the new single-player campaign, Heart of the Swarm will bring eight new units for each faction and other hosts of additions and improvements.
Guild Wars 2
If you are looking for a fresh new take on the MMORPG genre, then you will want to keep an eye out for Guild Wars 2. In a genre where a plethora of "me too" games are dime-a-dozen, it is certainly refreshing to see games like Guild Wars 2 which does not only attempts to provide a better MMO experience but it actually tries to bring something new to the table. Aside from the fact that it looks absolutely brilliant, it is packed with creative ideas which PVP lovers will surely appreciate. Check out the video below and see yourself get excited regarding Guild Wars 2.
There is no doubt that one of the most successful franchise in the game industry right now is BioShock. Now with BioShock Infinite, the series is now taken out of the underwater world of Rapture in favor of Columbia, a city suspended in the air with balloons and giant blimps set against the background of 1900 America. Probably one of the main hooks of the game is how the protagonist is able to traverse the world of Columbia using grappling hooks and airborne railways called the Skyline. Much like previous games, you will have supernatural powers such as telekinesis and electricity manipulation.
The Diablo series is probably one of the largest timesinks that I have come across during my high school years. There is just something highly addictive about collecting loots and outfitting your characters with powerful weapons and armor. And the third installment in the series looks to reinstate the Diablo as the undisputed king of the hack and slash and dungeon crawl genres. Character classes include the barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk and demon hunter. Diablo III will surely cause PC games fans tons of sleepless nights and abandoned social lives this coming May 15.
