At this point, we only have to wait for a few more days before we can get our first official glimpse of Apple's next generation iPad tablet. But despite that fact, it seems that the rumors are not about to stop yet. According to this new rumor, alongside the announcement of the iPad 3, Apple will be releasing a new 8GB version of the iPad 2 as well. More details after the jump.
The report came from Taiwan-based IT Insider DigiTimes which is of course known for their hit-and-miss track record with regards to Apple rumors. Citing their usual "sources from the supply chain", the publication claims that the Cupertino giant will be launching to iPad 3 models - a 16GB and 32GB versions. And here is where things get a little bit interesting.
In addition to the iPad 3 announcement, allegedly, it is also expected that Apple will be releasing an 8GB iPad as well. This lower capacity iPad will allow Apple to cover different segments of the market which is dominated by the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet. This will also enable Apple to defend against the upcoming Windows 8-based tablet PCs.
As Apple has scheduled an event on March 7, sources from its upstream supply chain pointed out that the company is expected to launch two iPad 3 models - a 16GB version and 32GB version.
In addition to iPad 3, Apple is also expected to unveil an 8GB iPad 2, allowing the tablet PC series to cover different segments and to defend against Windows 8-based tablet PCs, the sources noted.
While DigiTimes may not have the best track record (they're more of a miss, really), it seems that this one is quite feasible. Remember when Apple released the iPhone 4S? Yes, an 8GB iPhone 4 was released as well. Well, it is either they launch an 8GB iPad 2 or lower the price of the current iPad 2 models. We will just have to wait and see on the 7th March.
