Untethered Exploit Patched in iOS 5.1 Beta 3, Update to iOS 5.0.1 Now Before It’s Too Late

For the past few weeks, majority members of the jailbreak community have been quite busy and this can be attributed to the release of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. On the other hand at the Apple camp, the Cupertino outfit has just released third beta version of iOS 5.1 which is most likely the next firmware update to be released publicly. Many of you are probably asking, does the Corona jailbreak work with iOS 5.1? Well, according to some iOS developer, nope, it doesn't.

iOS 5.1
A few days ago, Apple rolled out the third pre-release version of iOS 5.1 and it didn't have any major changes or features. It could be possible that the Cupertino giant will release iOS 5.1 for primetime in a few weeks or soon enough. And now according to some iOS developers (@Nadeem97, @unimp0rtanttech) and to no one's surprise, the Corona jailbreak or the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak has been patched with iOS 5.1 beta 3.

So what does this mean? It means that in case you haven't updated to the latest firmware which is iOS 5.0.1 yet, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you do so right away. Why? Because once the final version of iOS 5.1 goes live, Apple will surely stop signing iOS 5.0.1. And if that happens, there will be no more way for you to restore to iOS 5.0.1, which is as you all know, the only firmware that has the untethered exploit as of now.

But what if I have the SHSH blobs? Well, if you haven't updated to iOS 5.0.1 before, then it is doubtful that you have the SHSH blobs for iOS 5.0.1 because the only way that you can grab it is by being in that particular firmware. And again, if Apple releases the iOS 5.1 officially, it won’t be possible to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1, because iTunes will force you to update to the latest firmware.

So we encourage all our readers to update to iOS 5.0.1 right away if you care to have the latest untethered jailbreak. Yes, the exploit is not without its flaws but we reckon its better than not being able to get an untethered jailbreak in iOS 5 at all. [via RedmondPie]
