Owners of A4 devices have been enjoying pod2g's iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for more than a week now. While it is certainly a great time to be a jailbreak fan, not everyone have been lucky enough to receive the blessing of an untethered jailbreak. I'm referring to A5 device users of course, which includes the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. A few days ago we reported that pod2g has made some positive progress with the A5 untethered jailbreak, but in a recent update of the famed jailbreak hacker, it seems that we may have spoken too soon.
A5 device owners have been waiting for a jailbreak solution for iOS 5 for what seems to be an eternity. At this point, even a tethered jailbreak will be preferable, but it seems that pod2g is having some difficulty finding the exploit that will allow him to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. With that, people are starting to get impatient and have expressed feelings of displeasure and disappointment towards pod2g. Hence, the hacker was compelled to release an FAQ via his blog in order to answer some persisting questions:
How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home ?
The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly.
It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it.
So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.
Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release ?
Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!
Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then ?
A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet !
pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.
If I could, I would!
We're quite sure that pod2g is doing the best he can in order to finally bring the A5 untethered jailbreak to our eager hands, but hurling insult down his way might not be the best form of motivation. As pod2 have said, the A5 jailbreak will come once it is ready. So we should just trust him to deliver the goods once it is already possible and keep in mind, he is doing all of this for free and at his own time. Patience is a virtue as they say.
