For many years now, Apple products have been enjoying a great deal of success. But unfortunately, the same can't be said for the Apple TV. While it is not a complete flop, it simply pales in comparison to the sales of the iPhones and iPads. Even Steve Jobs himself has regarded the Apple TV to be a "hobby" product. Now in a new report, jailbreak hackers have successfully brought iOS applications to the Apple TV.
Famed developer Steven Troughton-Smith, one of the guys who have managed to successfully port Siri to older devices, has teamed up with another developer with the Twitter handler @TheMudkip in order to bring iOS Apps to the Apple TV. And lo and behold, they actually managed to do it. Troughton-Smith tweeted several photos as evidence that they have successfully ran a homegrown version of the iOS Springboard as well as several iOS apps through his jailbroken Apple TV. Check out the pics below:
Apple TV runs on a software that is also powered by the iOS. And while that is the case, Troughton-Smith and TheMudKip didn't exactly went with the project unchallenged. This is because the developers needed to rewrite the iOS app launcher a.k.a. the Springboard from the ground up. This particular hack is nowhere near ready for primetime but we think that this looks to be quite promising. Check out the hack in action below:
As you can see, both developers somehow managed to bring the iOS Springboard to an HDTV display via the Apple TV, which is nothing short of cool. This cool hack definitely has a lot of potential and may even compel Apple TV owners to jailbreak their device. [via iDownloadBlog]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
