Back in November, Apple has released the first pre-release version of iOS 5.1 and about two weeks later, it was followed by the release of iOS 5.1 beta 2. And today, a quick heads-up to all the registered iOS developers out there, iOS 5.1 beta 3 is now available.
The third beta version of iOS 5.1 (Build 9B5141a) is currently only available through OTA updates and not as an IPSW download via the iOS Dev Center but this could change anytime soon. As for the changes to the latest beta build, iOS 5.1 beta 3 should contain the usual bug fixes and improvements. If anyone can recall, iOS 5.1 is supposedly Apple's solution to finally remedy the long persisting problem with devices that are running iOS 5.
According to 9to5Mac, they have received a tip that this third beta version restores the Enable 3G toggle in Settings. A function that were discovered to be missing when iOS 5 was released last October. This should supposedly help preserve battery life by switching to Edge connectivity and be able to maintain cellular data for applications that do not need high data consumption. As of now, users of iOS 5 are currently left with no choice but to choose between their 3G turned on or switching it off altogether, the former of course, consumes battery rapidly.
Again, this iOS 5.1 beta 3 is only available to those that have registered an account over at Apple's iOS Dev Center. If you are currently in iOS 5.1 beta 2, then we suggest that you update your device right away in order to take advantage of the latest iOS build.
