It has been more than two weeks since the jailbreak community was treated to pod2g's iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. While for the most part, the jailbreak does work as intended, but we would be lying if we say that it doesn't have its share of problems. One of the main problems that is often cited by users after installing the untethered jailbreak is the fact that some apps would crash and return to the Springboard. While this bug reportedly occur with many different apps, it seems to be too common with iBooks. Luckily, the jailbreak community has come up with a permanent fix.
A few days ago, we have reported to you that an iBook fix will be coming the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. And now, that fix is now available in the form of an update to the jailbreak itself. That's right, both Corona and Redsn0w got an update in order to incorporate the fix that should resolve the iBooks issue. Applying the fix is as simple as heading over to Cydia and searching for the Corona 5.0.1 Untether package which should currently be in version 1.0-5 as of now.
And on the other hand, Redsn0w has been updated to its newest version which includes the fix for iBooks and also the problems that lies with launchctl.
The b4 version of redsn0w incorporates the 5.0.1 fix for iBooks, and also for sporadic problems with launchctl. Thanks to @xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from @comex’s github into the overall corona untether from @pod2g!
In order to apply the latest jailbreak using Redsn0w, simply download Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 for Mac or Windows (download link below) and run the program over your device. Be sure that you uncheck "Install Cydia" or it will reinstall Cydia and possibly lose your jailbreak apps and tweaks. Also in order to minimize errors, be sure that you run Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 as an administrator.
So if you are having problems with iBooks crashing or just any other apps in general, then we suggest that you install the latest version of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. If you are running the b3 version, then you can either use Corona or Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 to apply the fix. For instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 into your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, then we suggest that you refer to our iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak guide.
