There is no arguing that Siri is one of the most important feature of Apple's latest and greatest smartphone, the iPhone 4S. If you have seen the numerous demos of the app, then chances are you are impressed by what it can do. You know you want it, but reality strikes and you realize that you need to buy an iPhone 4S. Well here's an app from the App Store that might just satiate your Siri cravings.
The app in question is called Voice Actions from the iTunes App Store. Much like Siri, this app provides the user the ability to control their phone through speech commands. You can use command your iPhone to send email and text messages, set up reminders and alarms, search by voice, voicedialing your contacts and of course you can even ask it loads of silly questions. Yes, it does sound like Siri. And the best part is, you do not even have to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. All you need is at least an iOS 3.0 version or later.
And much like Siri, results will vary depending on your location. And of course, if you have a thick accent, it could be quite difficult. Although Siri does have the same problem. But unlike Siri, Voice Actions doesn't have any sort of visual polish. The interface is very simple with a mic icon at the center and the text that appears when you use the app is just downright uninspired. And it also lacks the ability to scroll down your most recent actions and request which is found in Siri. For sure, the app won't impress anyone when it comes to the visual department.
But many users are claiming that the speech recognition is surprisingly on point, and for many people that should be more than enough. And according to CultofMac, Voice Actions seems to also have the same snappy sense of humor that Siri has, which is definitely a plus.
If you are going to read the user reviews of the app, you will see that there are mixed reactions. Some say that it works as advertised but there are users claiming that it doesn't work at all and is a waste of money. A number of them are saying that it works great at first but with the latest update, it just stopped working. The only way to know for sure is to buy the app and try it out for yourself. Voice Actions cost $5 in the App Store. Just don't expect this to be Siri.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
