It has been two months since iOS 5 has been released for primetime and while it was jailbreakable from the get-go, it was a tethered solution. It is safe to say that what the jailbreak community really wants is the elusive untethered jailbreak, which was last seen on the iOS 4.3.3. For a couple of weeks now, jailbreak hero pod2g has been actively working on bringing the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak into our hands. Pod2g has updated his blog once again and he has some great news for us.
As mentioned, pod2g has updated his blog with an entry that demonstrates the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak working on an iPhone 4. So for those who are still apprehensive that the iOS 5.0.1 will not be receiving an untethered jailbreak, here's a video that should wash all your skepticisms away:
As you can see, that was clear as day that the untethered jailbreak is also working with iOS 5.0.1. So if you are still on iOS 5.0 fearing that iOS 5.0.1 won't get you an untethered jailbreak, your concerns are now unwarranted. You can go update to iOS 5.0.1 and still get the untethered jailbreak. And since it works on the iPhone 4, this pretty much guarantees that it will work with other existing A4 devices as well. The video was also recorded because pod2g wanted to extinguish the rumors that the untethered jailbreak will only work on old iPod touches and not the newer iPhone 4.
From pod2g's blog:
Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.
This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.
The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).
Patches are the same as redsn0w's. Expect the same level of stability.
Some more days to wait. Be patient, we're doing our best.
Just by reading that, doesn't it smell like Christmas more than ever? Unfortunately, there has been no word about the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices, namely the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. But pod2g is already on the case and has overcome the obstacles which brings him a lot closer to an iPhone 4S jailbreak. We've seen an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 with Comex's exploit in iOS 4.3.3 so having one for the iPhone 4S isn't exactly that far-fetched of a deal.
It is really close folks. Again, no ETA yet but quoting pod2g, we got "some more days to wait" since the jailbreak is already "near ready for prime time". So more patience folks and support our jailbreak heroes if you can by donation. Hopefully, we'll get it by Christmas or before the year ends. Great work, pod2g!!
