If you can notice for the past few days, Microsoft is on the roll when it comes to releasing their applications in the iOS platform. And now another application of the software giant is unleashed into the App Store. The app in question is Microsoft's own cloud storage service called SkyDrive.
For the uninitiated, Windows Live SkyDrive is a free file hosting service of Microsoft that enables users to store their files in the cloud which they can access anytime from their web browsers. In order to have a SkyDrive account, the only prerequisite would be a Windows Live ID, which is a free sign-up.
From the iTunes App Store:
SkyDrive from Microsoft is the place to store your files so you can access them from virtually any device. With SkyDrive for the iPhone, you can now easily access, manage and share files on the go. You can also upload photos or videos from your iPhone to SkyDrive.
From what it looks like, Skydrive does seems to have the bells and whistles that comes with a cloud storage app. With the app, you can access your SkyDrive content while on the go, view recently used documents, upload content such as photos and videos from the iPhone and many more. Unlike Apple's iCloud which has a limit of 5GB (for free accounts anyway), Skydrive gives the user 25GB right off the bat.
Since iOS is a closed file system, SkyDrive's application is somehow limited. But if you have a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, coupled with jailbreak apps such as iFile, then you could definitely find a lot of use for this apps. This app works similarly to the popular Dropbox so if you want an alternative, then you can give SkyDrive a try.
