When it comes to a multimedia device, it is hard to deny the fact that the iPod touch is currently one of the most well received devices today. It is pretty much like a stripped down version of iPhone 4 without the "phone" part. Unfortunately, one of its main drawbacks is its relatively poor camera. But here's a jailbreak app that looks to offset that.
A new jailbreak app has hit Cydia and it is meant to upgrade the iPod touch 4G's kind of substandard camera, at least when compared to the iPhone 4's picture shooter. The name of this jailbreak app is called iPod 720p HD Camera from developer Billy Chan. According to the author's description, iPod 720p HD Camera is a camera app based on Apple's AVCam sample. Basically the app allows the iPod touch 4G's camera to shoot photos with 1280×960 resolution.
iPod 720p HD Camera is actually a standalone app so once you have installed it, an icon for the app will be added to your homescreen. Once you have launched it, you will find that this app is pretty much similar to the default Camera app in terms of function. You can take photos, record a video ad switch camera (front or back). From what it looks like, it does seem to take a much clearer picture as compared to the default Camera app. Other features include the ability to take pictures while recording a video. Snapped photos are then saved on your photo album.
One of my main gripes though is that the interface looks so amateurish. That goes without saying that the app doesn't look very pretty with regards to user interface. And since this is a free app, expect to be bombarded by ads while using it.
This jailbreak app probably won't exactly blow you away but it is a nice little boost to the iPod touch's unimpressive camera. And of course, it is available for free so if you have a jailbroken iPod touch then you have nothing to lose if you give this tweak a try. Let us know in the comments if you notice any difference after installing the app.
Before you can install this tweak, you will of course need a jailbroken iPod touch. For those who have installed the iOS 4.3.5 IPSW, you can use our Redsn0w tethered guide. But if it is an untethered jailbreak is what you are after, go ahead and download the iOS 4.3.3 IPSW and restore. Then use one of the following tools: Redsn0w / Sn0wbreeze / PwnageTool / JailbreakMe. If you are currently running the iOS 5.0 build, then you may use our iOS 5.0 Redsn0w jailbreak tutorial. For the latest iOS 5.0.1 firmware however, refer to our iOS 5.0.1 Redsn0w jailbreak guide. And if you want to convert your jailbreak to a semi-tethered one, please use our semi-tethered tutorial.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
