Siri, the iPhone 4S exclusive feature certainly getting a lot of press lately. This is largely due to the fact that hackers and developers are doing their best to port the device to older hardware. A possibility that Apple stated in an official statement will never come into fruition. Today we've come across a tweak that claims that it will bring full Siri functionality to iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G.
If anyone can recall, Troughton-Smith and chpwn was able to successfully port Siri to older devices and even the aging iPhone 3GS. But for legal reasons, they won't be able to distribute the files that are needed as well as the process behind it. Now a new tweak from Cydia called H1Siri claims that a full Siri port is possible just by installing it. Here's a video for you to check out:
As you can see from the looks of it, it is indeed fully functioning Siri on an iPhone 4. But upon installation of the tweak, users are reporting that they keep on getting the “Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network” errors. Which is understandable because the folks behind this tweak are using an unknown proxy server and not the official servers of Apple. Another possible explanation is that the server is fully loaded right now due to the huge influx of requests. Either way, it seems that it doesn't really works as flawless as one would think.
Famed hacker chronic warned people through his tweet to stay away from this tweak as it is possible that it is gathering personal information and keeps sending it to an unknown server. And from what it looks like, the tweak is using modified copyrighted files that are technically owned by Apple, making this tweak illegal.
In order to access the tweak, you must add one of the following repositories:
IMPORTANT: As mentioned, this tweak is potentially illegal so install at your own risk. The server is also being hammered right now so it is possible that you won't be able to easily add these repos so easily. After installation of the tweak, your device will reboot. You MUST boot in into tethered mode using Redsn0w in order to make H1Siri functional.
This only works in an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch jailbroken to iOS 5. Here are the needed tutorials if you are interested.
