About a week ago, a new jailbreak tool has hit the jailbreak community in the form of Ac1dsn0w by the Pwn Dev-Team. Now the team responsible for this new jailbreak has released another version dubbed Ac1dsn0w beta 2.
Ac1dsn0w didn't exactly had the smoothest launch. This is because it was determined by iPhone Dev-Team frontman MuscleNerd that the new jailbreak tool has actually violated copyright laws found within its coding, which makes it illegal to distribute the files. But it seems that the Pwn Dev-Team were up to the task and promptly addressed the legality issues with Ac1dsn0w beta 2. Now with this new version, jailbreakers all over the world now have a new option when it comes to jailbreaking iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 on their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Ac1dsn0w beta 2 works for the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPad 1
- iPod touch (4th Gen)
As we have pointed out before, jailbreaking your device using Ac1dsn0w yields a tethered jailbreak. So don't get your hopes up and think that this can provide an untethered jailbreak. This basically means that, aside from a different interface, it doesn't really offer anything new to the table. Which begs the question, why even release it? Well, to its credit, the jailbreak process itself seems to be fast since much like the later versions of Redsn0w, you won't be needing to point the program to an IPSW file when jailbreaking. In addition to that, the authors of Ac1dsn0w did promise a couple of new features that haven't been done before. And this includes the ability to jailbreak devices remotely which is definitely interesting.
The process of jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using Ac1dsn0w is pretty much the same as beta 1. So if you are planning to use it, just refer to our Ac1dsn0w guide. Keep in mind though that this is still pretty much a program in beta, so expect there are bugs or glitches to be found. If you are looking for a more stable jailbreak solution for iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1, then use our Redsn0w guide. Tutorial for jailbreaking iOS 5.0 using Redsn0w can be found here while the guide to jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w can be found here. For converting your jailbreak to semi-tethered, just refer to our Semi-tethered jailbreak tutorial.
