If you have been paying attention to the recent news about Apple's new iPhone, the iPhone 4S, you will know that a good chunk of it involves its exclusive new features, Siri. It is because people have actually made it a sport to hack Siri and do all sort of functionalities. Of course, there is the successful attempt to port it into older devices and even the iPhone 3GS. Hackers have also managed to create a Siri proxy server and use it to control a thermostat and jumpstart a car with their iPhone. But now there is actually a jailbreak tweak that allows user to experience Siri on their older devices but it comes with a catch.
The name of the jailbreak tweak in question is called Siri0us by Eric Day. When we say something about a "catch" we meant that this tweak only does the dictation functionality of Siri. This tweak is actually based on the widely known Nuance Dictation technology. The developer describes this tweak as "Siri dictation for your iOS 5 devices. No iPhone 4S keys/files required". And what do you know? We've tested it and it does work quite well.
Siri0us is a package that is available through Cydia and you can go download it now for absolutely no cost at all. All you need to is to add the following repo to Cydia, and search for :
NOTE: It seems that as of the moment the server is currently struggling so you might not be able to add the repository right away. Just keep trying until you successfully do. As an alternative, you can also add the following repo: siriforyou.bplaced.net/repo/
The developer noted a certain bug that may occur once you have installed Siri0us and it may cause your iDevice to keep respringing. In case you have experienced the bug, do not restore your Device but instead use an SSH tool and remove this file:
It has been confirmed to work on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4G.
Since this is a jailbreak tweak that can be downloaded only from Cydia, so you need an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch jailbroken on iOS 5. Here are some of our guides that you can use if you haven't done it yet. If you have installed the iOS 5.0 build, read our Redsn0w tutorial for a tethered solution.
