Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 on Windows & Mac [Direct Links]

Yesterday, Apple just released its first incremental update for its latest mobile operating system, the iOS 5. iOS 5.0.1 beta aims to fix the bugs that are causing degraded battery life on iOS devices that runs on the Cupertino company's most advanced mobile operating system. And just a few hours after it was released, it was confirmed that it can be jailbroken using Redsn0w 0.9.9b7. But the user needs to point Redsn0w to iOS 5 final IPSW. And now it seems that Redsn0w was updated once again just for iOS 5.0.1 Beta.

The iPhone Dev-Team just announced an update to Redsn0w (v0.9.9b8) so that it becomes easier for jailbreak developers to work with iOS 5.0.1 by adding the firmware beta keys to the program. As stated earlier, in order to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 beta, it requires the "point to older firmware" trick. But with the latest version of Redsn0w, that trick won't be necessary since the program will natively recognize iOS 5.0.1. But since iOS 5.0.1 is still on beta and can't be accessed publicly, you still need to point Redsn0w to its IPSW at least once so the program will cache all the important bits. After that, you won't need to point it to the said IPSW again.

iOS 5.0.1 is the first ever beta for the public release of iOS 5 and this was released after Apple admitted that there are indeed bugs that affects the battery life of devices running the latest firmware. There are other bug fixes and performance improvements as well, but fixing the battery life seems to be the most pressing concern as of now. But as with all pre-release versions of new firmware, it is only accessible to those who have enrolled an account at Apple's iOS Dev Center. This is to ensure that the update works flawlessly before being released to the public. Just head over to the iOS Dev Center if you want to register for an account.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 is still a tethered jailbreak which means that you still have to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a computer whenever it reboots to make it usable again. It works on most devices except for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. If you find tethered jailbreaks to be quite a hassle, you can opt to install a Cydia package called SemiTether for a semi-tethered jailbreak. Just refer to our comprehensive guide here.

Have you installed any Cydia package that may be causing the issue?

I downloaded Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 Mac and I have iOS 5.0.1 on a iPhone 3G S which I have tried to jailbreak with 5.0 and 5.0.1 iOS final releases. Both crash whilst Redsn0w after Environment is uploaded.

Do you maybe know why this would be happening?

We do not make Redsn0w, the Dev-Team does & also its quite troublesome to include all / every version of the models / iOS jailbreaks & unlocks. I believe its just a waste if done so since its always the latest & the greatest versions that needs frequent updates & jailbreaks, not the older ones.
