More than 13,000 stores have opened during the midnight that it went on sale. In 24 hours, the game is expected to sell as many copies as its rival, Battlefied 3 has managed on its first week. The previous iteration of the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops managed to sell 5.7 million copies on its first day. Activision expects to easily surpass that with Modern Warfare 3. According to numerous analysts, the latest masterpiece from Infinity Ward will once again break sales record.
To coincide with this major release, this also marks the launch of Activision's new online subscription service and gamer social network called Call of Duty Elite. For an annual fee of $50, COD multiplayer enthusiasts will be able to access extra downloadable content, join daily competitions complete with real life and virtual prizes, the ability to manage and level up your clan, access to in-depth stats, Elite TV and many more. But there have been reports indicating that the service faces some issues due to eager first day users.
It looks like the Call of Duty franchise is about to give birth to another phenomenal game in the form of Modern Warfare 3. As someone who has played different iterations of the franchise, one of the best attractions of Call of Duty are the sweeping single-player campaigns although the multiplayer aspect is also tons of fun and definitely very popular among gamers.
