Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 Final Using Gevey SIM [How-to Guide]

In case you have missed it, Apple just released its highly anticipated update to its mobile operating system iOS, the iOS 5. Now if you are using Gevey SIM to unlock your iPhone 4, you might be wondering if the SIM will work on the iOS 5? Well as it turns out, you can unlock your iPhone 4 using Gevey SIM, you just need to follow the instructions we've detailed here and you're good to go.

Gevey Supreme Red Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 Final Using Gevey SIM [How to Guide]

Before Updating to iOS 5:

DO NOT upgrade to iOS 5 using the stock firmware from Apple. Doing so will cause your iPhone 4 to lose its unlock by upgrading its unlockable baseband. You don't want that of course. Instead of using the stock iOS 5 firmware, we will be cooking our own iOS 5 custom firmware using the latest version of Redsn0w which we will be using to upgrade our iPhone 4 to in order to preserve your unlockable baseband. This way we can use Gevey SIM to unlock your device after the upgrade. Just follow this mini guide first:

  • Download the latest version of Redsn0w (0.9.9b5), which has a new feature that lets you create custom IPSWs. Currently available for Mac only but we'll make sure to update this post once the Windows version is made available. Download Redsn0w (0.9.9b5) for Mac here.
  • Launch Redsn0w and click "Extras" from the main menu and then select "Custom IPSW". Redsn0w will now create the custom IPSW for you. For iOS 5 IPSW download links, click here.
  • Once that's done, enter "Pwned DFU" mode through Redsn0w's "Extras" option.
  • After that restore to the custom firmware we've created earlier using iTunes 10.5 (download links here).
  • Now you can use Gevey SIM to unlock your device.

Steps on How to Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 Final Using Gevey SIM:

  1. Navigate to Settings » General » Network and turn OFF 3G. Make sure to keep Cellular Data and Data Roaming option ON. Also see to it that there is NO unofficial SIM present in your iPhone 4 SIM tray during this step.

Update #1: For those having issues in getting their Gevey SIM to work with the iOS 5, try the steps mentioned by Vivek or by Kiril. They sure seem to get the Gevey working real nice on iOS 5. Be sure to thank them. :D

Update #2: If the above methods did not work for you, try the Alternative Way mentioned in this pastie to get the Gevey working. Thanks to @deefilippi for the compilation & w2no for mentioning it.

      Hi,

I’m sorry but you won’t be able to unlock your device either by Gevey or Ultrasn0w because the dreaded 4.11.08 BB. Did you happen to update to iOS 5 using iTunes? Because that will update your BB.

There is no available method for unlocking or downgrading (except for iPad BB) as of now. There are people who are working on it though but there are no definite ETAs.

      •
        Dabassmohit2 years, 5 months ago

Yes after installing sam i connected it to iyunes after that the bb incresed to 4.11.08

Wat if i go back to 4.3.5ios using my saved shsh through tiny umbrella
Is it possible that i cn restore my bb???

        •
          Pesmerga2 years, 5 months ago

I’m afraid you can’t downgrade your BB even if you downgrade your firmware, it is not reversible as of now and it may never will.

Your best (and only) option is to wait for Ultrasn0w or Gevey to support 4.11.08.

          Hi,

Unfortunately the 04.11.08 bb is not yet supported for any unlock solution. But there are reports that it is being worked on, and it is close. No ETA yet, so what you can only do is wait.

    Hi.
I’ve got an Gevey unlocked AT&T iPhone 4 running iOS 5 and planning to restore and update to a custom 5.0.1 IPSW created via redSnow to preserve BB, and thereafterto JB.
But I lost my AT&T sim card and can’t get hold of another one as I live in South AfricA. After restoring and updating, will a redSn0w JB automatically activate it? And is it tried & tested? As I do not want my phone to be unlockable forever.
    Help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

      Hi,

Redsn0w will not activate your device. You can try jailbreaking your device with latest Redsn0w and use SAM to activate your phone without official SIM card. For more information: http://bit.ly/ykhEDX

I went ahead and parted with the money to purchase a factory unlock (www.ifactoryunlock.com) after I updated my iOS in December. I’m just happy not to have to play cat and mouse with the updates. Money is tight for some folk so I understand. Now if I want to jailbreak I can…update when something cool comes out…I can.

I know it doesn’t help anybody on AT&T etc because nobody can factory unlock those again yet. But if you can factory unlock, just do it if your budget allows. That being said I totally hated the Gevey. Mine broke when I was out of the country so I was up the creek without a paddle.

      JackLord2 years, 6 months ago

First of all, iPhone 4 04.10.01 baseband is unlockable using Gevey. There can be two reasons behind the issue you are facing:

      1. Gevey SIM spoof your IMSI and ICCID to unlock your iPhone. There is a possibility that your operator is cross-checking both values to discourage those iPhone users who are unlocking their iPhone (Ilegally in the eyes of Apple). Secondly, Apple might have introduced the new check in iOS 5.0.1 which validates IMSI and ICCID with ur carrier after certain time.

      2. The Gevey SIM interposer could be faulty.

Best way to check? Downgrade iOS 4.3.x and u’ll get answer to the both points above.

Will downgrading version 5.0 to 4.3.5 change the BB from 4.11.08 to 4.10.01 allowing you to use Gevey Card or others. Can you suggest jailbreak that doesn’t require me to connect to computer every time to boot it up?

    Thanks

    •
      Jacklord2 years, 6 months ago

      @Unlockme Hi,

Downgrading will not cause your baseband to downgrade. Looks like you are looking for an untethered jailbreak. If you want the latest untethered jailbreak, it is with iOS 4.3.3. Although there are reports that an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1 is already close to release.

    •
      Jacklord2 years, 7 months ago

      @keko717 Hi,

I’m afraid you may have lost your Gevey unlock. As a rule of thumb, you should not update to any stock iOS update if you are using Ultrasn0w or Gevey as it will also update your unlockable baseband. You should have updated using a custom firmware.

      •
        ikes2 years, 6 months ago

@Jacklord@keko717 so if i used apple os 5 update mt phone is permanently locked?

        •
          Jacklord2 years, 6 months ago

          @ikes@keko717 Hi,

As a rule, if you are using an unlock, never update using Apple’s stock IPSW or through iTunes. It is always best to upgrade using a custom IPSW to preserve your supported unlockable baseband and have it unlocked after the update.

DOES GEVEY SIM DRAIN BATTERY? BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE OF MY iPHONE 4′S BATTERY DRAINAGE, NO 3D GAMES, FEW APPS RUNNING ON BACKGROUND, JUST SURFING WEB AND CHECKING EMAIL, SOCIAL STUFF FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS AND THE BATTERY GETS TO 30′s. HELP.

    •
      Jacklord2 years, 7 months ago

      @AlvinTran Yes,

It is possible that the Gevey sim causes it but as far as I know, this only happens with counterfeit Gevey SIM. If that is not the case you might want to restore and rejailbreak your device just to be sure. If you are in iOS 5, then it is possible that the problem lies with the OS itself, since iOS 5 is known to have battery drain issues which Apple continues to fix…

      •
        AlvinTran2 years, 7 months ago

@Jacklord @AlvinTran the sim is not counterfeit, because i used the official cydia source to unlock automatically with my ultra sim while on 4.3. The battery was quite terrible previously, but it got even worse when i updated to 5.0, and it doesnt seem to help when updated to 5.0.1. Has anybody experienced this issue?

        •
          Jacklord2 years, 7 months ago

@AlvinTran iOS 5 really does seem to drain the battery fast, with all its new features. It is actually a common problem, I myself can attest to that.

Supposedly iOS 5.0.1 fixes the issue but not for everyone. Maybe you can try some of fixes we’ve featured before: http://bit.ly/uk5976 and http://bit.ly/v5Dsgj

        •
          AlvinTran2 years, 7 months ago

@Jacklord well, ive been doing that since updating to ios 5.0, but it doesnt seem to help. On another post, somebody said that they even get about 2 days of heavy usage, but i barely even make it through a day with only surfing the web. Well, i guess the battery improves a bit after updating, but nowhere near 2 days. Thank you anyways.

@NgaNguyen If your phone is stuck at the apple logo, reboot it using ibooty and it should work fine. If you have either badeband 3.10.01 or 4.10.01, then you should be fine.

I had trouble getting my gevey supreme to work with 5.0.1 and BB 04.10.01. I would follow all the steps mentioned for getting a gevey to work usually but it would go to No Service.

Finally I followed the steps mentioned here as in.

Enable Cellular Data and Data Roaming while there is NO SIM followed by inserting the gevey SIM interposer and SIM.

and it worked. I am trying to understand what is the relation between having data option turned ON and getting gevey to work?

Does this have to be done every-time phone reboots or we lose coverage?

    Hello Pramond!
i think i have damaged my new iphone 4.
i am running ios 5.0 with 4.110** firmware.
i mistakenly jailbreaked it with redsnow using ios 4.3.3
now the phone is in itune recovery mode which i try to rejailbreak with the latest redsnow with my window 7 but it failed to recognize my ipsw file.
i tried to restore with the ios 5.0 i keep getting error 30194.
i uninstalled the new version of itune, bonjour, apple application support, apple updater and installed the previous version of itune 10.4.1 and tried to restore with my tinyumbrella active and pointing at cydia checked.
i did not remember to save my shsh
while restoring i keep getting error 1600 and when i put my phone when the phone is in pwned udf but when try to restore using the normal itune recovery, the phone pops up and hangs in apple logo while trying to restore and trows error 10.
since error 10 is associated with updating my itune, i cant bypass error 3194 and if i manage to bypass error 3194, it keeps giving me error 2005.
i have searched the web and i am crying here.
    please help me………………..

i have no cluse what the name of the gevey sim on my ios 5 iphone 4 is

    any help?

    •

Is the modem FW version of your iP4 that’s currently running iOS 5 Gevey compatible? Also I believe what you just got in the mail is a duplicate one because only Applenberry’s authentic Gevey SIMs are detected by FuriousMod.

Check you local mobile outlets / eBay. Or get it from http://www.applenberry.com. I don’t have any specific links / sites though. :(

  •

does it matter what kind of gevey sim it is?
because i hear alot of talk about gevey sim, ultra gevey and supreme gevey sim.
    is there a difference?

    thank greatly appreciated

    •
      Pramod2 years, 7 months ago

Every Gevey SIM out there works & unlocks just fine like any other version. They differ probably the way in which they are able to retain the GSM / data signals after a reboot w/o the need to redo the 112 steps manually & so on.

I bought the gevey and I am doing just fine until part 11.

The n Iam stuck in the ‘welcome mode’, where I can select language, country etc., since the iPhone has been reset.. How do I get to the settings, in order to turn airplane mode on and finish the above process?

    Thank you in advance!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

Use a legit carrier SIM to activate your device officially with iTunes. If you / anyone else around you doesn’t have one, JB your device using Redsn0w.

  •
john kevin2 years, 8 months ago

pramod how will we get gevey to work because on tethered ios 5.01 we need to reboot if we reboot we lose the unlock so we insert the gevey while its rebooting and instead of the single bar we will get no service after we press accept right?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

Yep, that’s correct. You will no longer get the single signal bar on iOS 5 while using the Gevey. Also, I prefer not to JB if your using a Gevey because it seems to mess up the unlock as well in the process.

  •

I’ve had my iphone4 opened using a gevey sim to ios 5. I was not told NOT to update to anything, so when an update patch came in I accepted it, and now it can no longer detect my network. Any solution to this?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

Nope. You have lost your unlock by accepting the installation of the update. There’s nothing that can be done about it at the moment.

Yes you can. Create your custom iOS 5.0.1 IPSW using Sn0wbreeze & restore to it.

You cannot restore to iOS 5 anymore because Apple has stopped signing it. You may restore only to iOS 5.0.1.

Pramod – had anyone been successful with 5.0.1 and gevey? Don’t want to try if it has not been proven

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t run on iOS 5.0.1 thought I would still ask you to wait for a few more days until someone confirms the same.

Hi, I’m currently running on iOS 4.2.1 with BB 03.10.01, unlocked with a gevey sim. If I update my phone to iOS 5 will I be able to unlock it? Also, are there any specific instructions I need to follow to unlock it on iOS5? Please respond.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

You cannot update to iOS 5, but you can still update to iOS 5.0.1. Yes, since you rely on a Gevey unlock, you will need to use Sn0wbreeze to create a custom 5.0.1 IPSW & then restore to that instead to keep your Gevey unlock intact. Never go near a stock IPSW restore via iTunes, it will kill your Gevey.

    Hi Pramod,

I used sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 and iBooty and installed iOS 5.0.1 with preserved BB 4.10.01.

But the issue is that i am unable to see that 1 single signal bar when i boot or re-insert my sim+gevey. Pls suggest if i am missing out something ?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

You don’t see the single signal bar anymore in iOS 5.x with the Gevey. Continue with the 112 steps right from the No Service message onwards.

Is it possible to downgrade from ios 5 with baseband 4.11.08 to ios 4.3.3 with baseband 4.10.1. If so what is the procedure. I saw one website which claims it can do that.
    http://www.smashiphone.net/downgrade-baseband-4-11-08-to-4-10-01-iphone-4-on-ios-5-to-unlock-with-gevey-sim-how-to

Can we follow this procedure for the downgrade

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

The post mentions downgrade to 4.3.5, not 4.3.3 & Yes, it would have definitely worked sweet only if Apple was still signing iOS 4.3.5 restores right about when iOS 5 was just released. Not anymore though. :(

Hi – I am a little confused. Do I need to jailbreak my iPhone before using gevey? I just want to unlock and be bale to use on Tmobile. I have bought a Gevey Ultra. Vurtrently on 4.3.5 and want to use gevey on ios5.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

Nope, you need not JB your device if you don’t want to because you can still manually perform the 112 steps & use the Gevey Ultra.

The windows version of Sn0wbreeze which lets you preserve baseband is now up – sn0wbreeze v2.8b11.
Available for download here -> http://ih8sn0w.com

Haven’t tried it yet but will do it over the weekend. Fingers crossed.
The Sn0wbreeze updated has already been mentioned in the pastie in Update # 2 of the blog

By updating to iOS 5, you have killed the Gevey unlock. Currently, there is no way for you to unlock your iP4 & therefore trying to downgrade your iOS will not help either. You will need to wait until an unlock is out for the 04.11.08+ BB version. :(

    Hi pramod,

I have an iphone 4 which is running on version 4.3.3. I am facing problems of apps crashing. Like my ipod app crashes the moment i try to open it.

Also i would like to know whether i can upgrade to ios 5 directly from itunes. The iphone which i am using is unlocked with a gevey sim. I am worried to upgrade as my friends say that i might get locked.

    Please help..

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

No, you should not update your device directly from iTunes if your an unlocker as this will definitely lock your device out & render it useless. Follow the instructions & restore your device if you want to update to iOS 5. Your app crashes are possibly due to some incompatible or unstable tweaks / apps that you may have installed via Cydia. A restore should be able to fix that as well.

There’s nothing that you can do right now to save / downgrade your BB. You have already lost the ability to unlock your device by updating to the stock iOS 5 from iTunes & so all you can do is to wait for a new unlock to come by. You should have never clicked the Restore button alone.

Can you tell me how to downgrade back to 4.3.3 so I can jailbreak and unlock unthered with redsnow again. please
    does jailbreakme.com stillworking?

-using tiniumbrella freeze my itune. I dont know why
-changing the IP in host file freeze also my itune. I dont know why.

After trying OS5 with my IP4 a week. I found:

IOS 5 I have problem with called ID when receiving call, it wont recognize my contact phone list because it adds +1 to the number while my contact show 1. That ‘s why it can show the caller ID.
    -Notifications eat alot of battery.
-Icloud is not that great. dropbox is still the best.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You need to have the 4.3.3 SHSH saved for your device / iOS on Cydia / TU & JBMe does still works for iOS 4.3.x.
For your freezing issues, try the restore procedures on a different PC as this is more of a computer specific issue.
Make sure that your regional settings are set to the right country / format.

  •
    miltos2 years, 9 months ago

    Followed this steps…
While your phone is ON, remove the sim, so you will get the NO SIM message
    - Turn OFF your phone (DON’T INSERT THE SIM YET)
    - Turn ON your phone and wait it to boot. “No sim” message will appear.
    - Insert your Sim tray with gevey sim
    - Wait some seconds till the gevey sim message pops up and dismiss it

i didnt dismiss it. i pressed accept waited for no service an called 112 (2-3 sec.), go to settings and ON/OFF airplane mode … nothing… tok OUT SIM and IN again and VOILA full service !!!! Vodafone AL!!!

    •

Yep, yours / anyone else’s AT&T SIM would work great. If you don’t have one, you would be forced to JB your device tethered.

    •

It depends on what are you actually doing. If your reinstalling your iOS, its a restore else its an update. Yes, if your updating / restoring & not downgrading your iOS, you can very well restore from your backup.

  •

Probably the Gevey is having issues when it looses its signal. Did you try removing the SIM tray & popping it back in?

  •
    Jen2 years, 9 months ago

Okay I don’t know if I completely understand this all. I have the Iphone 4.3.5, I am using t-mobile as my service and have the gevey sim. I want to do an update on my phone but last time i tried to do that it ended up restoring my whole phone and could not get any service. had to take it down to where i bought the gevey sim and they did something with my old att sim card and got it working. now i don’t want to mess anything up when trying to update my phone or lose anything again. How do i do this? Sry if this is all explained above, i am just not understanding this, not familiar with doing these kinds of things.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yes, you will still need to activate your device using the same legit carrier SIM after the new iOS restore is complete. Also an update / restore completely erases all the data/ settings that you may have had already. So make sure that you have backed up your device first before following these steps.

    Hello all
This is a great forum, i have followed the Dev Team blog since beginning when i bought my iphone 3g and locked “accidentally”. I learned how to use the tools to restore, upgrade, downgrade. I now have and iPhone 4 using the Gevey SIM interposer, not Pro or Supreme. I have this phone on 4.3.3 and 03.10.01. It is working excellent with Gevey and is untethered. I have a couple of douts i want your help:
    1. when i upgrade to ios5 with redsnow my phone will reboot normally? as long as i remember, is this right? no need for an official SIM?
    2. the gevey i have is not pro or supreme, this one will work?
    3. i want to try the new ios5, so no problem with tethered, but, going to ios5, can i downgrade to 4.3.3?

    thanks for your help

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

      1. As long as you do not hacktivate / JB your device, it will boot up normally. You will definitely need a legit carrier SIM though to skip any kinds of hacktivation or JB.
      2. Any Gevey will work.
      3. Only if you have had its SHSH saved for your device on iOS 4.3.3 on Cydia.

As you said if he has restored using iTunes than it will be downgraded back to 4.10.01, so that means if he failed in doing so we can restored it back to 4.3.5 and it will downgrade the bb. Right?

The thing is that my seller is totally novice in this all things so it can be the case that he may not restore it properly..

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Nope. It doesn’t downgrade your BB anymore as Apple has already stopped signing iOS 4.3.5. So if you get it with iOS 5, nothing can be done about the BB.

  •
    FalseGuy2 years, 9 months ago

    Thanks for replying

I asked the seller to restore it back on 4.3.5 (original iphone was on this) using itunes and he said he did before shipping. Does this mean it will come with downgraded firmware 4.10.01 or it will be upgraded to 4.11.08 only. Also, he is sending me original sim card along with, so is there any chance to downgrade firmware using that simcard?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If its reastored to iOS 4.3.5 as he sadi, it will be on the 04.10.01 BB.
Downgrading your iOS using the legit carrier SIM card, absolutely not possible.

I have ordered iphone 4 and seller says it has iOS 5 with modem firmware 4.11.08 on it, I was bit aware that this firmware is not unlockable using gevey, so I told him to restore his iphone back on 4.3.5 via itunes. But I doubt this may have changed modem firmware back to 4.10.01 or not. He has shipped the phone, now I’m worried will I be able to unlock it using Gevey.

Also, please guide which Gevey I should use, ultra? supreme pro or which one. I heard that supreme pro is good as ultra and cheaper in price but consume more battery.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If your going to receive it with iOS 5, you cannot unlock your BB at the moment & will have to wait until a new Gevey / unlock is out for the 04.11.08 BB version. Any version of the Gevey would do as they all work with every vulnerable BB of the iP4 other than 04.11.08. Make sure they are genuine ones & not fake Chinese ones.

    Hey,

i downgraded from ios 5 to 4.3.3 but bb always on 4.11….

what i have to do know?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

As of now, nothing can be done to unlock your device on the 04.11.08 BB. You have lost the ability to unlock your device until something new is out for iOS 5.

Hi friend I have a big problem and nobody seems to want to help so i am asking you now!

i have ios5,BB 3.10.01,iphone 4, did it with redsnow everything is great but my gevey sim which worked early on 4.2.1 now cant activate phone this is way because my phone dosent let me do this procedure.

I activated it with Tmobil sim card, and when try to insert gevey he lock itself back and ask me for activation requried.
but when I pull out gevey he activate itself and everything wotks except offcourse Phone.

so how to bypass activation one and for all.
    IS this activation card good.
the problems is that I had so much problem to get this activation card beacuse its of an carrier from another country!
I dont want to jailbrake my iphone if J dont have to.
    What to do now???
    please help!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If you / anyone else has the legit carrier SIM to which your iPhone was locked to, pop-it in & hook your device to iTunes for official activation. If not, you then need to JB your device on iOS 5. No other go.

I did not back up my SSH blobs prior to the move to IOS5 but there are 2 SHSH’s saved – iPhone 4.3.3 (8J2) and IPhone 4.3.5 (8L1). These were saved when i was trying to revert back to 4.3.1. Am i missing something? Thanks

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You can revert back only to iOS 4.3.3 / 4.3.5. iOS 4.3.5 is still tethered, so 4.3.3 is your best choice out there. Open up TU, set it to these settings http://bit.ly/qqFuve 7 quit it. Next, downgrade your device to a custom 4.3.3 IPSW via iTunes. Use Sn0wbreeze http://bit.ly/mbFORU & restore to that in a pwned DFU mode.

  •
Steve McNair2 years, 9 months ago

hmm- I have been reading the comments in this thread and could do with your help for the following – I previously had 4.3.1 with the Gevey Pro unlock installed. I upgraded to IOS5 while preserving my BB. Is it possible to go back to 4.3.1 ? if so could you point out the steps? Thanks – I appreciate your patience.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Do you have its SHSH saved for your device on iOS 4.3.1? Open up Tiny Umbrella & see if you have any. Make sure you set its setting like this http://bit.ly/mT3R3e.

The Gevey will still work as long as you have preserved your BB.

tried to restore, after pointing itunes to the downloaded 4.3.5 version, but it gave me the message “the requested update is not applicable to the device build” or something to that effect. now, i just went back to getting pawned DFU mode in redsnow. im actually in the point of processing the build; exploiting with limera1n. taking a while, but im praying that after this process, my phone can get to the pawned dfu mode / build where it can take in the restore to 4.3.5. whew… will keep you posted. thanks again Pramod!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Pramod, do you have the link to ultrasn0w 1.2.4 ?

  •
    Geene2 years, 9 months ago

uh-oh. im afraid my itunes dont want to revert back to 4.3.5 anymore, as i only see the iPhone3.1_5.0 BB in my iphone software update even after downloading the link to preserving 4.3.5 mentioned above. what to do???? :(

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If you want to preserve your BB for a Gevey unlock you need to restore to the stock iOS 4.3.5 first because your current BB isn’t Gevey compatible. That’s the whole point. Later on, you may wish to update / restore to iOS 5 using the NO_BB IPSW of iOS 5.

  •
    Geene2 years, 9 months ago

Hi Pramod, i just finished downloading the link to downgrading to 4.3.5 i connected my phone to itunes and have managed to get it into recovery mode. i did just as you said, to click alt + restore, and it brought me to a window where it gives me the option to choose to open the iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw OR the NO_BB_iPhone one. what should i choose if i wanna revert back to 4.3.5? man, this is very crucial and i patiently wait your response, you;ve been very very helpful thanks!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Neither one. You need to point iTunes to the iOS 4.3.5 that you just downloaded.

  •
    enchantinspellz2 years, 9 months ago

yes gevey works on ios 5 !!! provided u preserved ur baseband…

for all dos who preserved der bb… u can follow da below steps in order to unlock using gevey:

switch on ur phone wid da gevey sim… da msg pops up, u gotto accept it nd den after bout 5 seconds u see no service … immediately dial 112, make sure da call goes thru …(if it says call failed den dial 112 again) for bout two seconds nd hang up! den toggle da aiplane mode on n off… u get dos sim failure prompts n it finally says searching ! after bout 15 seconds .. ur fones unlocked! :D

however, i don understan y is da signal weak! i just get one bar ! :|

newe i can confirm my iphone 4 is running on ios5 bb 2.10… i preserved da bb using snowbreeze! :D

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Install the latest Ultrasn0w from the Dev-Team. That should fix your one signal bar issues as well. :D

When Apple stop signing iOS 4.3.5 fromware?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Probably within a day or two. Apple keeps it for a max of 1 week.

  •
    Xyberz2 years, 9 months ago

Ummmm…..Not sure if you read any of the comments, it doesn’t work on the final or GM version of IOS5. You need to downgrade back to 4.3.5 if you don’t have your SHSH blobs saved from before.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

I believe that’s the whole point of this article; to use a custom IPSW to preserve your unlock while you update to iOS 5. Also, you need to downgrade to iOS 4.3.5 not because you do not have the SHSH, but it is to downgrade your BB to a Gevey compatible one which is on 4.3.5.

  •
    Bobby2 years, 9 months ago

Turn 3G off? So only EDGE data speed with this unlock?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

That is only a pre-requisite for the Gevey unlock to work with the data signals w/o any issues. This is not a limitation. So after the unlock procedure is complete, you can go ahead, switch on your 3G & start using it.

  •
Alvin tran2 years, 9 months ago

Can I do this whole thing with sn0wbreeze? (for windows) is the procedure similar? If not, please tell me a complete procedure for snowbreeze for windows. And how do I unlock the phone if I don’t have an Att sim card, and is the jailbreak untethered?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yep, you can still perform the similar procedure via Sn0wbreeze v2.8b8 for Windows. iOS 5 is still a tethered JB even on Sn0wbreeze & in case you do not have the legit carrier SIM, you need to JB your device.

      1. Yes.
      2. You need to jailbreak your device for that.
      3. Jailbreak your device & that should help you skip the activation if you do not have the legit carrier SIM.
      4. His hosts file needs to be fixed by removing any reference to Cydia’s server.

    •

You require neither a JB nore a Mac to downgrade. Download the stock iOS 4.3.5 from here http://bit.ly/oLQQk7 & Shift + Restore to the same from iTunes.

  •
    Johnny2 years, 9 months ago

    Here are the details:

    - Current software installed is IOS 5 Firmware 04.11.08
    - Phone is locked.(no Signal)

    what to do from here?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

To be frank, nothing. The Gevey doesn’t work on the iOS 5 anymore. You need to downgrade your device to iOS 4.3.5 & then restore back to iOS 5 by following this guide. Download the stock iOS 4.3.5 from here http://bit.ly/oLQQk7 & Shift + Restore to the same from iTunes.

  •

Hi, i have updated my iphone 4 to ios5 thru itunes, and now my phone is compeketely locked, can’t even get to homescreen. I read in the previous posts that it’s still possible to revert back to 4.3.5. But how does one actually do it? I have tried accessing my time machine in the effort to go back to the previous OS version, but it said it can’t retrieve anymore, and that it has been replaced by the new ios. Please herlp me, my iphone has been in “coma” eversince the update i mistakenly made.:(

    •

Restores doesn’t work with the help of time machines unlike the Mac. You can downgrade by downloading the stock iOS 4.3.5 from here http://bit.ly/oLQQk7 & then Shift + Restore to the same from iTunes.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yes you need it just like how you would activate your device on the iOS 4. No changes there. If in case you do not have one, you can us someone else’s legit carrier SIM similar to yours that cam locked with your iPhone as well. Else, you would need to JB your device tethered on iOS 5.

    Hi there!
I have a problem with my iphone after upgrading to ios 5

I used at&t Iphone 4 with gevey sim for Tmobile.

And 2days ago, I upgrade to IOS5 with firmware from Apple……

    so I can’t use my phone anymore…

I want to downgrade to ios 4.3.5 but my baseband is already 04.11.08

If I downgade to ios 4.3.5, can I use gevey sim again?

I have never done backup with shsh and used cydia app.

    Please help me.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yes, you can very well downgrade to iOS 4.3.5 which will also lower your BB version to a Gevey compatible BB. Apple is still signing them officially, so you need not have its SHSH saved for your device.

  •
    nanna2 years, 9 months ago

    •

You can still downgrade to iOS 4.3.5. Download the stock version & Shift + Restore to it directly from iTunes.

  •
Alvin tran2 years, 9 months ago

Okay just to make this clear, all I need to do is downgrade to iOS 4.3.5 (which for me is upgrading because I’m on 4.2.1) using the normal iTunes ipsw, then upgrade to iOS 5 and preservin the baseband by this instructions, and everything is normal again!? Is that correct?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yep, but you need not go down the extra mile of updating to iOS 4.3.5 first & then to iOS 5. Instead, you can straightaway restore to a custom iOS 5 by following the steps.

If you have the legit carrier SIM / anyone else’s SIM belonging to the same carrier that came locked to your iPhone, pop it in & connect your device to iTunes. Else, JB your device using Redsn0w.

I have a “hactivated” iPhone on 4.3.5 using SAM and am using it with Gevey. I do have an AT&T sim (legit), can I activate my device using this? How do I uninstall SAM and activate using the SIM I have.

Once my device is legit activated I plan on preserving the bb and using gevey to goto ios 5.0. Y

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Click Revert Lockdownd to Stock in Settings>>SAM disable your current hacktivation & reboot your device. Next at the Emergency Call screen, pop-in the legit SIM card back to officially activate it via iTunes.

You need to pop-in the legit carrier SIM to which your iP4 was locked to & activate it via iTunes. If you do not have one, you need to JB your device explicitly via Redsn0w.

hi there, i am using the gevey ultra untethered unlock which relies on furiousmod, for which in turn a jailbreak is necessary. as far as i know, as of now no untethered jailbreak for ios 5 exists. so there is no untethered unlock possibility in ios 5. is this correct?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yep, that’s right. As of now, there is no untethered JB for the iOS 5. Also, the Gevey Ultra never really relies ONLY a JB. You can still use the Ultra to unlock your iPhone manually just like the previous Geveys.

How can I downgrade???I want to downgrade but I don’t have original SIm

Can I use someone’s original sim card??

And I have never used cydia before then is it unlocked phone? or jailbroken phone??

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

To downgrade your device, simply download the stock iOS 4.3.5 & Shift + Restore to it directly from iTunes. If you do not have the legit carrier SIM, you can use someone else’s SIM that comes locked with iPhones in your country as well. Installing Cydia doesn’t really tell you whether a device is unlocked because you can install Cydia onto factory unlocked iPhones as well. Its definitely jailbroken if you see Cydia though. But your iP4 isn’t an unlocked one for sure.

But iTunes Restore to 4.3.5 is what gives me error 1609..!!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If you have Tiny Umbrella, open it up & set its Settings like this http://bit.ly/mT3R3e & quit it. Now, retry the restore. Also, try the restore on a different computer. Being a stock restore, iTunes shouldn’t error you out.

Insert the legit carrier SIM to which your iP4 was locked to & hook it up to iTunes.

  •
    JO2 years, 9 months ago

    Hey there,

So I did all the above mentioned steps. The gevey screen pops up telling me to do the appropriate steps, but when I go to do this, I get the activation screen/intro screen telling me to set up my language, wifi, etc. How do I get pass this and turn on airplane mode? Or does anyone know what I did wrong?

    Much thanks in advance.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You need to first activate your device officially with iTunes. You can’t access the Springboard unless you activate your device.

hi, i have an iphone4 on ios 4.1 unlocked with gevey sim. I want to update to ios 5.0
I do not have the original sim with me.

I can peserve the baseband and update to ios 5. How do I activate the phone???
and then how do I unlock it? would gevey still work?

    please do enlighten!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

I believe the post itself answers all your unlock queries. For activation, you need to JB your device tethered if in case you do not have the legit carrier SIM for activation.

I have a problem with my Iphone now.
Could you give me a solution?
I used my Iphone 4 which was jailbreaked but after upgrading to ios5 by apple firmware
My phone doesn’t work with Gevey sim any more.
Can I jailbreak my iphone again ?? It have jailbreaken before ios 5 and is it fine with this method?
I just want to use my Iphone with T mobile prepaid plan

    Thank you!

Downgrade to stock iOS 4.3.5 from iTunes first & then update back to iOS 5 by following this guide. Remember, the Gevey doesn’t work on the iOS 5 anymore. So, you need to keep that BB preserved to keep the Gevey unlock preserved.

Install the latest Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 from Cydia. That should fix your single signal bar issue.

  •
Parmeet S2 years, 9 months ago

    Hello Pramod

What do you mean by ensuring no mention of Cydia in your host file.. What is Cydia? I just updated using Apple Server and am trying to downgrade using Apple IPSW. This set is not Jailbroken or anything..

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Nevermind. You can go ahead & use the stock 4.3.5 IPSW to restore your device from iTunes directly.

  •

same here ! i followed the jailbreak steps but im stuck with the activation screen
it says sim not valid and then , only compatible sim cards bla bla bla ! :(

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

If you do not have the legit carrier SIM to which your iPhone was locked to for official hacktivation, you need to then explicitly JB your device to get across the activation screen.

Check your internet settings & make sure nothing’s blocking iTunes from accessing its update servers. If everything’s good, wait for a few hours before you retry as the Apple servers might be swamped up with iOS 5 update requests.

What’s an ublockable baseband? My iPhone 4 came jailbroken and unlocked using the gevey sim that I don’t have to do the dialing and switching aiplabe mode. Mines running iOS 4.2.1 baseband 3.10.01, is it unlockable, and how can I get pass the activation screen? Help me. I want to upgrade. (on tmobile USA if it matters)

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Don’t upgrade your iP4 as the Gevey doesn’t work on the iOS 5 anymore. You need to pop-in the legit carrier SIM of your iP4 & hook it up to iTunes to get it officially activated.

Yes. That’s what this guide is all about.

  •
    Confused2 years, 9 months ago

    You don’t get what I mean. T.T

I mentioned in my previous post I DID restore it back to iOS 4.3.5. But weirdly, I’m STILL stuck at the activation screen, they STILL require a legit SIM! I only get to enter the emergency call screen. Even in iTunes I can’t activate it, it says ‘use a legit SIM’

This is so frustrating. It’s like my Gevey Unlock is completely gone. :’(

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

This was your previous post right?
Read it once again & tell me if I have answered you something else other than what you have asked. I seriously don’t get what you are really upto. One moment its the Gevey that your asking about & the next its about restoring.
Your free to Google your queries instead of asking it here.

where can i restore back to 4.3.5? i can then try again from there

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

From iTunes. Download the stock version of the same & Shift + Restore to it.

  •
    Confused2 years, 9 months ago

The problem now is I’m not sure how do I restore it back to the iOS in which I have the Gevey unlock. I never had the Gevey unlock in iOS 5.

1: Can you explain how this restore works? Is it similar to back up?

2: Everyone says downgrade to iOS 4.3.5 if you accidently updated it( which I did), so I downloaded the iOS 4.3.5 ispw from some website, which claims it’s Official Apple release. The thing is, I’m not exactly SURE which iOS I was running on with my Gevey unlock before this. Could that be the issue?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Doesn’t really matter which iOS you were running because iOS 4.3.5 is your ONLY hope to keep the Gevey unlock preserved. So, go ahead & restore to the stock IPSW you just download via iTunes & then later update back to iOS 5 using the custom IPSW.

  •
    Confused2 years, 9 months ago

    Hi,

I’ve accidently updated my iOS to iOS 5 yesterday, then now my phone is stuck.

I’ve done the steps above as you mentioned, which is I Shift+Restore my phone through iTunes back to iOS 4.3.5. Everything went well.

Now my welcome screen is a USB plug with an arrow pointing towards iTunes, it says I need to activate my iPhone using the original Sim.

Back to square one again? Sigh.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Nevermind. You want to be on iOS 5 right? Go ahead & restore your device to the custom iOS 5 IPSW to keep your Gevey unlock.
You will need to explicitly jailbreak your device to get it across the activation screen if you do not have the legit carrier SIM.

Well, did everything as written, and the Update too… Thing is, in the SIM Applications menu, I get no choice of language. There are three buttons: Get Information, Get IMEI, Get Network Measure and that’s all! I don’t get one bar after pressing Accept.

Even without the one bar i dialed 112, and pressed several times Airplane mode, and it found the operator, but the signal stays at one bar, no matter what.

Any help bout these issues please?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You will not be getting the one bar on iOS 5. It just stays on No Service message. That’s it. You need to continue with the 112 procedure thereafter.
Reboot your device & redo the steps once again. You should be able to get it.

Shift + Restore to stock iOS 4.3.5 & then upgrade back to iOS 5 by following this post.

  •
    Vivek2 years, 9 months ago

For all those who are not getting the ONE signal bar upon reboot try this -

Go to Settings->Phone->SIM Applications and select the desired language from the menu.
Go back. Press the home button to exit the settings and wait.

The Gevey Sim introduction should pop up in seconds followed by the ONE Signal Bar.
Complete the ritual of dialing 112 and then keeping Airplane Mode on till you get the error messages.

    Hi Guys,

I upgraded my Iphone4 yesterday to IOS 5 before i googled its impact and now my iphone doesnt work.
I got stuck right at the setup beginning where I should activate my Iphone. I get ‘SIM not valid’. I have a Gevey SIM.
I tried to restore to my previous IOS 4.3.5 several times, but it didnt work.
Now i am not sure which IOS is still installed
1- How can i check which IOS version I have at the moment? which code number to dial (since i only have emergency call or start over menu). I tried *3001#12345#* and it didnt go through.
2- i didnt preserve any baseband. Is there any solution for my case?

    Thanks in advance.

If you having the Emergency Call screen, then your on iOS 4.3.5 already. Now, follow the post & update to iOS 5 by preserving your BB to keep the Gevey unlock. After your done with the iOS 5 restore, you would need to then JB it tethered to get past the activation.

What for those who have already upgraded to iOS5 using Apple update?

    a) Your Suggestion to Downgrade using 4.3.5 IPSW doesn’t work (error 1609)

    b) Baseband is still 4.11.08, any option to downgrade without Jailbreak?

    c) Does Jailbreak void Apple warranty?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

      1. It does still work. Restoring to a stock iOS 4.3.5 is as simple as it gets. Make sure that you don’t have any reference to Cydia servers in your hosts file.
      2. I just mentioned how in my first point.
      3. For Apple, Yes.

SOLVED PROBLEM WITH GEVEY UNLOCK PROCEDURE :)

    Finally solved problem:

    Step-by-step:
    1. Reboot your phone without Gevey
    2. Insert Gevey
    3. Press Accept when Gevey window appears(if it wont appear launch it manually using Settings-Phone-Sim-applications-English)
    4. Counting 15 seconds
    5. With the status “no cell” calling 112, hang-off within 2 sec
    6. Enabling Airplane mode and w8ting for message “Sim-card is not inserted (in my case i’ve waited for 20-25 sec)
    7. Press OK and disabling Airplane Mode

In 4-5 sec your phone will find your operator=).

The Gevey SIM doesn’t work on iOS 5 anymore. Downgrade back to stock iOS 4.3.5 ASAP from iTunes.

  •
    ganesh2 years, 9 months ago

I’ve updated to ios5 with 04.10.01 bb and it works perfectly fine…..
the only problem/difference with gevey unlock is (manual unlock not unthetered) is that there wont be one signal display but only no service while doing gevey unlock procedure

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yep, I just explained the same a few min back. :D

Hey Pramod, thnx for answering all our queries and keep up the “social” work…
I am currently using iphone4 for the past 6 months, with 4.3.3, BB- 4.10.01 and unlocked with Gevey, originally locked to AT&T.

    I want to know
    1) whether i need my original AT&T sim in any of the steps to upgrade from 4.3.3 to ios5 as i do not have my original sim now.
    2) Whether i need to jailbreak my iPhone before or after the upgradation as i do not want to jailbreak.
    3) Will i have to connect my iPhone to pc every time i switch it Off and On.

    Thanks in Anticipation !! :)

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

      1. You will need the legit carrier SIM to activate your device officially via iTunes if your not planning to JB your device.
      2. Not necessarily.
      3. Not if you JB your device on iOS 5.

  •
    katrina2 years, 9 months ago

hi! i’ve just updated to iOS5, problem is, upon activating the phone, it says sim card not valid at the end. what do i do? i got the update straight from iTunes. please, would appreciate your reply ASAP.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You would need to JB your device using Redsn0w if you need to get the iPhone across that w/o a legit carrier SIM. Remember, it will be a tethered JB.

  •

there are 2 types of gevey sim on the website i want to buy. they have gevey pro which does not require cutting of micro sim and the they have gevey cutting sim. will any of them work to unlock ios 5. Many thanks

    •

Yep, AFAIK every version of the Gevey SIM works.

Followed mini-guide with success until Step 9. I get the Gevey welcome screen but I no longer get the 1-bar status which is my cue to dial 112. It simply goes directly to “no service.” Any suggestions?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

On the iOS 5 it doesn’t show the single signal bar anymore. Continue with the 112 procedure after the No Service message & then repeatedly switch OFF & ON your Airplane Mode until the carrier section pop-up in your Settings app.

  •
    rex2 years, 9 months ago

If i do all this procedure with my gevey sim still in….. will it go fine? or i ll have to pull it out first?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Its always advisable to remove the Gevye & then perform the restore / update just to be on the safer side.

  •

I have an iphone 4 using iOS 4.1 with bb 2.10.04 currently unlocked the gevey sim.
It will work if I did the above steps?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yes, as long as you use a custom IPSW for your restores, you can always use your Gevey for an unlock.

  •
    Kevin2 years, 9 months ago

Hi – I updated the firmware with preserved baseband using redsnow mac 0.9.9b5

Since I needed to JB to activate, I assume I have to boot using redsn0w as it’s currently tethered. This seems to be causing an issue using the gevey, as I have to use redsn0w to boot, then the gevey doesn’t seem to work, can you confirm this?

    (still on bb 04.10.01)

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

By mentioning that the Gevey doesn’t work, do you get the message screen? Or are you stuck at the No Service message?

  •
Parmeet S2 years, 9 months ago

Has anyone tried this? Will it work? My iPhone is just 4 months old. Would doing all this make me lose 12 Months Warranty?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You wouldn’t be seeing this on our site if it wasn’t for real. :D
Nope, it doesn’t void any kind of warranty until you JB which according to Apple is voiding the warranty.

Hi i have followed your steps with IOS5 on 4.10.01

After the airplane mode switched off, it searches for a network but doesn’t find one, instead displaying NO SIM

    Fix?

    Thanks

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You need to repeatedly switch OFF & ON the Airplane Mode until you see the Carrier section pop-up. It takes sometime to get used to it.

You need to boot it tethered using the Just Boot Tethered Now option from Redsn0w.

appreciate if anyone can confirm whether they have successfully tried the
iOS 5 Final Version upgrade while preserving 04.10.01 baseband (either RedSn0w/Sn0wbreeze) specifically using Gevey ULTRA and any issues faced

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

You will need to follow the manual 112 procedure for the Gevey Ultra to work with iOS 5. Also, you might not receive the single signal bar, but that alright because you still can continue with the unlock procedure as usual to get it unlocked.

Im planning to Upgrade to IOS 5 preserving BB of my current 4.3.5(4.10.01) and use Gevey to unlock. But which Gevey to choose. Current options are

    1)GEVEY PRO PLUS
    2)GEVEY SUPREME
    3)Gevey Ultra
    4)Gevey Pro
    5)Gevey Basic
Applenberry.com says options 1 and 2 are fake. So should i go for 3? Or 1,2 will work? And BTW i stay in Mysore, Karnataka. Will gevey work here? My connection is Vodafone.

    •

Ask for the Gevey Supreme Pro Plus Red version. It works well.

i even wanted to ask hw to create a custom IPSW on windows 7… whch software to use

    •

No big issues so far. It does work for sure on the iOS 5.
If you can’t wait for the Redsn0w update for Win, you can go ahead & use Sn0wbreeze v2.8b8 for achieving the same.

i was able to do it with snowbreeze 2.8b8 and every things fine now

    except one problem
almost all the cracked apps are not being installed on the device…the installation just fails for them.
I haven’t jailbroken the device yet(waiting for unthetered one) so is that the problem for the cracked apps not being installed???? or is there any other way to do it?

Sir can you help me update my girlfriend’s phone.
    - iPhone 4 (AT&T locked)
    - Lives in the Philippines (AT&T Sim card issues)

    My questions are:

    1. Can I use the baseband preservation without jailbreaking? Tethered jailbreak + tethered unlock would be awful.
    2. I read something about needing the original AT&T Sim Card. While doing these steps, do I need this sim to work? I’m scared that it might not work for activation because we are in the philippines.
    3. Which software could I use for saving my SHSH blobs? For my own iPhone 4 which is factory unlocked, I used iFaith and it worked perfectly fine downgrading from iOS 5 betas to iOS 4.3.3.
    4. Lastly, is snowbreeze for iOS 5 Final out yet? We are on windows so we cannot use redsnow.

I am concerned about her because she’d freak out when her iPhone would be stucked in a locked iOS 5 if everything fails. lol So i want to be 100% sure that this would work and have the assurance that I can get back to iOS 4.3.3 when it fails. Thanks in advance!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

      1. Yes
      2. If you don’t want the JB, you need to have the legit carrier SIM to activate your device with iTunes officially.
      3. If its already saved via iFaith, its good to go. You can optionally save them onto Cydia by using the latest version of Redsn0w as well.
      4. Yes, its the same that was used for the iOS 5 GM. (v2.8b8)

Bottomline: Always restore to custom IPSWs if you rely on an unlock.

Fix your hosts file by removing / deleting the reference of Cydia that you have & then redo the restore from iTunes once again.

  •
    mito2 years, 9 months ago

I tried to downgrade it to ios 4.3.5 but itunes keep on saying

“iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”

although redsn0w says that m device is now on pwnd DFU mode.

    Any help?

I’m currently on 4.2.1 and running with BB 03.10.01. If I update while preserving my baseband (03.10.01), will I still be able to use my Gevey sim?

To clarify: the Gevey sim is currently working fine on 4.2.1 BB:03.10.01

If I upgrade to iOS5, will I be able to preserve my baseband 03.10.01 and use Gevey sim without any problems ?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yes, just make sure not to update to the stock iOS 5 directly from iTunes. To save your unlock, always follow the custom IPSW path like the one described here on this post.

  •

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

First, make sure that your hosts file do not point to the Cydia servers. Next, restore back to iOS 4.3.5 ASAP. Shift+Restore to the same from iTunes. If it by any chance still errors out at 3194, you will have no other choice except to stay locked on iOS 5 itself.

  •
    ganesh2 years, 9 months ago

i think i’ve edited my host file too
@pramod can you give me the path to the corresponding host file where i need to comment the cydia server

this is how im having it
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

and also snowbreeze 2.8b8 has the feauture of making a custom ipsw with no jailbreak on it and baseband preservation ???

    •
      Pramod2 years, 9 months ago

Yep, your hosts file looks good. You can go ahead & restore from the custom iOS 5 IPSW.
Yes, Sn0wbreeze does have that option to keep your BB w/o the need to actually JB your device.

Yes, you need to comment / delete that Cydia address from your hosts file to update to iOS 5.

    Hello,

I want to update to ios 5 final. I am on 4.3.5 with baseband 04.10.01 which I want to preserve in order to use my gevey sim to unlock my Iphone 4 after the update. Will the custom restore feature in redsnow 0.9.9b5 work for me ? I read this in the official dev team website “The new “Custom IPSW” button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now). ” Here it is written 4.3.3 ot 5.0 gm , and I am with 4.3.5. Will it still work for me to update and preserve my baseband in order to unlock my Iphone 4 with the gevey sim after the update ?

    Thanks

Yes it definitely will work for you no matter the iOS your currently on.

As we already knew that Redsn0w (0.9.9b5) is a tethered jailbreak; therefore, each time when iPhone 4 restarts or turns on, do I need to do the Unlock steps again? Please let me know it when you have a chance. Thank you so much for your help.

Probably yes, you would still need to repeat them if you were tethered jailbroken.

It will be updated for sure.
Use xBackup to backup your Cydia sources / apps / settings.

No ETAs on that. You can very well use Sn0wbeeze 2.8b8 instead.

You can use the same that you got from iTunes. Its all the same except these are the direct links to those IPSWs that you download off iTunes.

Please be more detailed with regards to your device model / BB / iOS info. Can’t answer such vague questions.

You have to bring the welcome message manually by going to settings >phone >sim application. Then chose your language preference. Also you don’t get the single bar, you will see No service instead. Here is a complete video I made.

You can still use the old ones. They are all the same.
