One of the most significant things that happened last week in the world of tech is of course the launch of the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 4S. There is no doubt that it will be a majorly popular product and that it will be selling like hot cakes. But it seems to be once again exceeding expectations as Apple received tremendous number of pre-orders and then eventually lead to the iPhone 4S selling out for pre-ordered units.
On October 7th, we have reported that Apple will be taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4S and it seems that many Apple enthusiasts were waiting for this very opportunity because according to major carriers, they we able to rack up impressive number of pre-orders. According to a report by 9to5Mac, one of Apple's major carrier partners AT&T has processed about 200,000 orders for the iPhone 4S, citing it as their most successful launch yet. What is more impressive is the fact that the said orders were actually placed within the first 12 hours since the pre-order period commenced. It is also worth pointing out that such numbers are only from AT&T and it doesn't include Apple's own online pre-orders and the other two carrier partners, Verizon Wireless and Sprint.
According to a statement made by AT&T:
AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had. It’s obvious customers like AT&T’s 4G network, which is the only one that lets their iPhone download twice as fast and talk and surf simultaneously.
And according to an update to the report of 9to5Mac, Sprint was able to sold out the 16GB version of the iPhone 4S. So how does this compare with the iPhone 4? Well when the iPhone 4 was made available for pre-order, it racked up approximately 600,000 pre-ordered units on Apple's own online store and AT&T. So as you can see the numbers are pretty comparable.
So if you are still planning to place your pre-orders for the new iPhone, then tough luck because Apple has already sold out for all of its American iPhone 4S units. But you can still place your orders through Apple's online store but be advised that your unit will be shipped after 1 to 2 weeks which means you will be getting it a few days after the official release date.
The iPhone 4S will officially be made available in stores in major selected markets on Friday, October 14th. This new version of the iPhone is a substantially souped-up version of the iPhone 4 featuring a dual-core A5 processor chip, an 8 megapixel camera, improved downlink speeds and battery life. One of the most notable feature exclusive to the iPhone 4S is Siri, a voice-controlled artificial intelligence technology. The iPhone 4S comes pre-loaded with iOS 5 and that by itself adds more than 200 new features to the iPhone experience.
The announcement of the iPhone 4S last Tuesday at Apple's iPhone event was certainly met with mixed reactions. Many were disappointed that the new iPhone turned out to be just a mere upgrade to the iPhone 4 and not a new, redesigned one. But if you're going to base it off these impressive numbers, it seems that many people are still eager to get their hands on it. [via 9to5Mac]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
