Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch opens it into a world of infinite possibilities. No matter how expansive the iTunes App Store is with its almost half a million available apps, there are apps and tweaks that simply won't make it into Apple's distribution platform. And that is where Cydia comes in, the iOS's "other" app store as they call it. Due to the closed nature of the iOS, by default, customization can be very limited. For instance, an option for theming your iPhone's graphical user interface is almost non-existent. But with a jailbroken device, there's Saurik's Winterboard.
But with the release of iOS 5, many of you who have upgraded might be wondering if Winterboard works on the system or not. Well, we are pleased to inform you that Winterboard has been updated to a new version (0.9.3901) and it mainly adds iOS 5 compatibility. This particular bit of news came from iSurenix's tweet, a famed graphic designer who's not a stranger to the jailbreak community and is known for developing tweaks and themes for the jailbroken devices.
In case you are not aware yet, Winterboard is a third-party jailbreak app developed by no other than the creator of Cydia, Jay Freeman better known as Saurik. Winterboard is a theming platform that enable users to customize their iDevice's Springboard by installing themes which are also made by users from the jailbreak community. It certainly is one of the most popular jailbreak tweak that can be found in Cydia.
Although Winterboard has now been updated to be compatible with iOS 5, it does not guarantee that all of the existing themes and skins will work with the new mobile operating system. It would be best if you verify first from the authors of your favorite jailbreak theme before proceeding.
As usual since this app is from Cydia, you need to have a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch first. To help you, we have a couple of comprehensive guides for you to check out.
