There is no doubt that one of the most highly anticipated event with regards to Apple is the release of iOS 5, a major update to the iOS mobile operating system. If you are a jailbreak enthusiast then one of the questions that would pop into your mind as the new iOS draws near, "Is it jailbreakable?" And more importantly, "Will it be an untethered jailbreak?" Well, famed member of the jailbreak community Stefan Esser a.k.a. i0n1c has something to say about that.
Once iOS 5 comes, you already know that you can count on two major tools to cover your jailbreak needs. And that is of course, Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze. Both tools have been remarkably updated, providing users with working jailbreak solutions with each new update of iOS 5 betas. Both tools have been very easy to use and provides great user experience. But as of now, both jailbreak solutions can only provide us with tethered jailbreaks. In case you don't know tethered solutions will require you to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a computer in order to boot it into its jailbroken state. This can be really inconvenient especially when you are outside or traveling where you have no access to a computer. So as much as possible, jailbreak fans would prefer to have untethered jailbreaks instead.
We have previously reported that the Chronic Dev-Team is already actively working on an untethered jailbreak solution for the iOS 5 and they won't be releasing anything for the beta versions. This is presumably to prevent Apple from finding the exploit and patching it for the final release, rendering all their hard work useless. And now Steffen Esser a.k.a. i0n1c just tweeted that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is already COVERED and someone's already on the case.
Aside from that, no further details have been provided but that goes without saying that the one who got the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak covered is the Chronic Dev-Team. If anyone can recall, another Chronic Dev member Joshua Hill a.k.a. P0sixninja announced during last month's MyGreatFest that they have discovered five userland exploits inside the iOS 5. P0sixninja emphasized that this could of course lead to untethered jailbreaks for the new platform. So for those who have been hoping for iOS 5 untethered jailbreaks, the future is indeed looking good.
This tweet made by i0n1c certainly does not tell us something we already don't know but at least, it is still nice to have a sense of assurance every now and then. One of the major determining factor for jailbreak users to upgrade to the latest firmware is if it there is an untethered solution available already. And that certainly applies once iOS 5 is released. Currently, iOS 5 is already on its Gold Master version which should be pretty similar to the final build which will be released on October 12th. So will there be an untethered solution once iOS 5 becomes publicly available? Well we just have to wait and see.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
