Software giant Microsoft definitely have been quite busy lately. Just last week, the Redmond based outfit released the Developer Preview version of their upcoming desktop and tablet operating system, Windows 8. If you have been keeping tabs on everything Microsoft then you will know that the company is also hard at work so they can roll out their new mobile operating system, Windows Phone Mango. There have been many speculations and rumors regarding the release date of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, but now Microsoft has finally released an update to its timing.
This particular bit of information was brought to our attention through an official Windows blog post by Eric Hautala, Microsoft’s General Manager in Customer Experience Engineering. According to the blog post, Microsoft and its partners have been actively working on Windows Phone Mango and have made solid progress. And as a result, the software giant should be able to roll out Windows Phone 7.5 Mango in the next week or two.
Hautala also took this opportunity to warn users from installing unofficial or leaked copies of the Windows Phone software. "During the official Windows Phone 7.5 update process, every Windows Phone will also receive software from the handset manufacturer", Hautala elaborated, "This matched and paired firmware has been painstakingly tuned so your phone—and apps—work with all the new features of Windows Phone 7.5." Since handsets would require the proper firmware to function as designed, Hautala advised that it is best that users avoid installation of bootleg updates and homebrew tools.
The blog post also encouraged users to update to the latest versions of Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac and the Zune software for PCs which are both essential in updating their smartphones. Several improvements have been made in favor of speeding up the process of updating and give users more control over backups. Hautala also asked users on his blog post to provide feedbacks in improving the update process if ever they upgrade to to Zune 4.8.
So there you have it. Just a week more or perhaps two weeks tops and Windows Phone users will be able to taste Microsoft's Mango pie. Windows Phone 7.5 codenamed Mango is a major update to the Windows Phone 7 operating system. The Redmond based company claims that Windows Phone Mango has more than 500 new features which includes Multitasking, Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat integration, Built-in voice-to-text/text-to-voice functionality, Newly revamped Search / Bing features, Revamped Marketplace UI and many more.
It goes without saying that Windows Phone 7.5 Mango will definitely help Microsoft gain that competitive edge in the smartphone industry which is dominated by Apple's iPhone and Android-based devices.
