Major Feature Upgrade to Redsn0w Coming This Monday, With No IPSW Selection and More

With regards to the matter of jailbreaking, it should be safe to say that Redsn0w is one of the best jailbreak tools around. This is due to the fact that Redsn0w supports pretty much all iDevices with the exception of the iPad 2. Redsn0w is very easy to use, supports both Mac and Windows, the process is streamlined and uniform even with new releases and it jailbreaks your iOS device in a matter of minutes. It's a very popular jailbreak tool for many reasons. And now it seems that a major update is being planned for Redsn0w that should please most jailbreak junkies.

Redsn0w Tool Major Feature Upgrade to Redsn0w Coming This Monday, With No IPSW Selection and More
The news was brought into our attention through a tweet made by iPhone Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd. According to his tweet, his team will be pushing out a major feature upgrade for Redsn0w before he sets out to his trip to Korea. And one very notable tidbit from the announcement is the fact that the new Redsn0w doesn't have an IPSW selection button.

In this the case, this feature upgrade to Redsn0w will certainly make it more convenient to jailbreak iDevices using the program. If you have been using Redsn0w, then you'll know that you will need to have Redsn0w verify the IPSW that you need to jailbreak into your device. As you all know, IPSW files are typically large in size, but apparently with the new Redsn0w you won't be needing to have these large files lying around anymore. Check out the new Redsn0w interface below:

So how does the new Redsn0w work then? According to MuscleNerd's many replies in Twitter, the upgrade Redsn0w will automatically fetch the essential files from Apple and these files will be automatically cached as well so the program doesn't need to re-fetch them again. The new Redsn0w will automatically identify the iOS device and which firmware version it runs and then a tethered or untethered jailbreak will be applied depending on the detected parameterers.

However, this auto detection is not yet applicable to current iOS 5 betas but they can be jailbroken using the new Redsn0w. Initially you will need to provide the IPSW yourself and then Redsn0w will cache it so that you don't have to select it again with future use. MuscleNerd stated during his announcement that the new upgraded Redsn0w will be available as early as Monday.

This announcement should definitely excite jailbreak junkies everywhere because the process will now become more streamlined and convenient. One can only hope that it works well with the upcoming iOS 5. We'll let you know once the new upgraded Redsn0w becomes available so be sure to stay tune with us.

Tried 4.3.5 using iTunes and then Redsn0w/Jailbreak and Ultrasn0w/unlock, worked fine but the only issue is, it’s tethered. What option do we have with tethered boot in case we don’t have laptop with us and have to reboot the phone, secondly, Any chances on coming untethered jailbreak for 4.3.5?

Absolutely none. That’s the ONLY drawback & that’s why its called a tethered (tied) JB. Unless you have restored to an iOS which supports an untethered JB, nothing can be done with regards to it for iOS 4.3.4+.

No SHSH blobs saved unfortunately, What if I go 4.3.5 and go for a jailbreak.

Restore to iOS 4.1 custom IPSW. Its still being signed by Apple, so you still have a shot at it.

I’ve been trying everything but nothing seems to fix the issue. Specs:
    IPhone 3GS
    IOS – 4.3.5
    BB – 5.16.02

I updated the BB to 6.15.00 and downgraded the iOS to 4.3.3 using redsn0w. everything seems to be fine until phone stuck in recovery mode now. I tried FixRecovery43. it stuck at 60000ms error. Tried redsn0w again but it get stuck at please wait. Created custom IPSW using sn0wbreeze. most of the time I get the error 20 in itunes. I updated the ITunes too and disabled the firewall, Antivirus. Set the host files with Apple server address. Please help.

Downgrading to iOS 4.3.3 w/o having the necessary SHSH blobs does no good. You need to confirm first if you have any saved for your device / iOS on 4.3.3 first & then restore. Read this first http://bit.ly/oKCpYX & confirm for any saved SHSH. If not, restoring to custom iOS 4.1 is your ONLY hope.
