At this point, someone who's actively following the many different news about Apple's next iPhone should be quite tired or annoyed by the many different rumors that pop-up. Well just bear with us because we have yet another report that is rather contrary to the long standing rumors about Apple's plan of releasing a new iPhone. As you probably already know, there are many reports which indicates that Apple is planning to release not one but two iPhones. These are the next generation iPhone and a lower-end model which is similar to the iPhone 4. Now according to a report, Apple will only be launching one iPhone model this coming fall and it is not the iPhone 5.
The report came straight from BGR and was based on a note to investors by Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair. On the note, Blair stated that Apple will be holding a special event between September 28th and October 5th to showcase a couple of new devices. Blair added that only one of those devices will be an iPhone. However, the said iPhone is not the next generation iPhone that everyone has been clamoring for but rather a device which is only a modest upgrade to the current model.
According to Blair's note, the main focus of the new iPhone will be the iOS 5, a faster A5 chip, the improved 8 megapixel camera and possibly a bumped up screen of 4 inches. Dubbed as the iPhone 4S, this new iPhone will be largely similar to the iPhone 4 with some modification to the antenna. So no, according to what Blair has written, the iPhone 4S will not be accompanied by a redesigned iPhone 5 simply because he thinks that Apple does not need to have 3 iPhone models out just to address all the three tiers of the market. This is because Apple will be releasing an 8GB iPhone 4 with a $99 price tag in order to cater to those markets.
Blair further adds that while the rumors are strong that Apple will be launching a redesigned iPhone, launching two models doesn't make sense for the Cupertino company. Blair asks on his note, “Why would Apple bump up only the processor specs of the iPhone 4 in addition to a newly designed iPhone 5 if the goal is to sell it into the pre-paid market at a lower cost?” He said that a 4S will be costing more and by itself isn't enough to cater to the mid-tier market unless it is priced at $99, the iPhone 4 drops to $49 and the iPhone 5 at $199. A scenario which is unlikely in his opinion.
As you can see, this pretty much negates all the widespread rumors about the iPhone 5. If that's the case then it would be seriously disappointing for Apple fans. But since this is yet another prediction from an analyst, one could take it with a grain of salt although he does have some valid points. So only one iPhone this fall and it is not even the iPhone 5? Well, we will just have to wait and see. [via BGR]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
