If you are an avid user of Facebook, then are most likely aware of the many changes that were introduced to the popular social networking platform. One of the most notable recent addition to Facebook is the Ticker. The Ticker according to Facebook, is a window at the right hand side of your account that lets you see your friend's activity in real time. It is like having another news feed inside your Facebook news feed, cool! Well, not really. Many people are complaining that the feature is redundant, distracting and only serves to needlessly clutter the News Feed page.
There is no way to disable the Ticker through conventional means because according to Facebook:
You can't close ticker, but you can make it smaller by moving the horizontal bar between ticker and chat. Slide the bar up to hide ticker and make your chat list longer. Pull the bar down to show more of the ticker and hide chat.
Fortunately, there are a couple of easy to do workarounds for both Firefox and Chrome.
Steps on How to Hide / Disable the Facebook Ticker:
- Just head over to this link and install the Hide Facebook SideBar Ticker extension for Chrome. And that's it. Enjoy your Ticker-free News Feed page.
- Installing Userscript Method: First you will need to install the Greasemonkey add-on. After that, head over to this link and install the Remove Facebook Right-Column userscript. Restart Firefox after installation. Keep in mind that this removes the entire right column of Facebook including the Ticker, ads, sponsored stories, event invitations and so on.
- Ad-Block Plus Extension Method. First you'll need to install the Adblock Plus extension for Firefox. Restart Firefox to complete the installation. Open your installed Add-Ons and Extensions by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+A on your keyboard. Click on Extensions > Adblock Plus > Options. Click the Add Filter button and paste the following code:
This method hides only the Ticker and nothing more.
NOTE: This method does not seem to work while secure browsing (https) in Facebook.
So using one of these methods, you can finally do your business in Facebook without the annoying Ticker.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
