Jailbreaking one's iPhone, iPad or iPod touch yields a great number of advantages. And certainly, one of the most prominent perks in jailbreaking is customization. When it comes to mobile operating system, there's nothing much that you can fault the iOS with as it provides a stable and smooth user experience. But one could say that Apple made the iOS too restrictive which unfortunately comes up short when it comes to the matter of customization. Fortunately, the jailbreak scene is there to make sure that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners will be able customize their own iOS experience.
One such restriction of the iOS applies to one of the most basic elements of an operating system, folders. By default, folders and their management in the iOS is pretty much the definition of limited and basic. One particular annoyance with iOS folders is the fact you can only cram about 12 icons in a single folder which seriously makes app management a chore especially when you have tons of apps installed. Another glaring drawback with iOS folders is that it doesn't allow folders to be placed inside a folder. We can appreciate Apple's effort to keep folder management simple but this is way too limited that it doesn't make sense. Fortunately, we have jailbreak tweaks like FolderEnhancer and InfiniFolders.
Another gripe that most users will cite when it comes to iOS folders is more on the visual side. By default aside from the name, there are no visual indication that lets the user distinguish one folder from the other. Wouldn't it be nice if you can assign icons to your folders in order to easily tell what their contents are and be able to easily distinguish them from each other? Well, we're pleased to introduce to you a jailbreak tweak that does exactly that, FolderIcons developed by Vertex.
With this tweak enabled, you will be able to assign an icon to your many different folders. For example, you can assign a joystick or controller pad icon to a folder filled with gaming apps. Or perhaps you assign a wrench or gear icon to a folder containing utility apps. You can browse for icons that you like off the Internet and SSH them into your iDevice. The developer was kind enough to include instructions on how to use the tweak which can be found under the iOS System Settings. And the best part is, FolderIcons can be yours for FREE. You can find FolderIcons in Cydia under the BigBoss repository.
To install and start using FolderIcons, you need a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. In case you need some assistance in jailbreaking your iDevice, just read our previous step by step guides.
