How to Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.5 using SAM?

As you all know, the latest version of iOS 4 as of now is iOS 4.3.5. Which is also most likely the final version of iOS 4 until the next version, the iOS 5 reaches the final build and officially released to the public. If you have managed to jailbreak your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, then we highly recommend to install SAM into your iPhone so you can officially activate it through iTunes. Why? Installing SAM will not only fully enable working Push Notifications but it will also help in improving your iPhone's battery life. For your information, SAM tricks iTunes to generate activation packets for your iPhone which are legitimate so that it fully activates even without hacktivation or an official carrier SIM card.

Steps to Officially Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.5 Using SAM:

  1. Open Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you haven't jailbroken your device yet, then refer to our Redsn0w tethered jailbreak guide for instructions.
  2. Cydia-Home_iOS-4.3.5

  3. Below Cydia, you should see a Manage tab which you need to tap. And on the next screen, tap on Sources.
  4. Cydia-Manage-Tab_iOS-4.3.5
    Cydia-Sources_iOS-4.3.5

  5. You should now be in the repo list screen. Tap Edit on the top-right of the screen, followed by a tap on the Add button located at the top left. You will be prompted by Cydia to enter the Cydia/APT URL. Just type the following: http://repo.bingner.com and then tap the Add Source button.
  6. SAM-Cydia-Repo-Address-iOS-4.3.5

  7. Cydia should now update its repository database for a few seconds. Once that's done, tap the Search tab and in the search field, type SAM.
  8. SAM-Cydia-Search-iOS-4.3.5

  9. SAM should appear in the search results if you've followed the above instructions properly. Select SAM from the search results and then tap Install.
  10. SAM-for-iPhone-4-iPhone-3GS

  11. Cydia will now be installing SAM into you device and once that's done you will be asked to Reboot Device, so go ahead and do that to complete the installation.
  12. Cydia-SAM-Installed-iOS-4.3.5

  13. Once SAM is installed on your iPhone, navigate to Settings > SAM > Utilities and tap Revert Lockdown to Stock. You should see a Stockification Success message. Otherwise, if you see a failure notification then it means that do not have the correct version of SAM installed.
  14. SAM-Stockification-Success

  15. Go back to SAM's main menu by tapping the SAM button at the top left of the screen. And that's it. Now we just need to activate your iPhone through iTunes.
  16. SAM-After-Activation

  17. Plug your iPhone to your PC or Mac via USB cable and open iTunes. You should see the following screen in iTunes below:
  18. SAM-iTunes-iOS-4.3.5

  19. Just wait for a few moments while iTunes generate legitimate activation packets for your iPhone. Now your device should be ready for syncing and backup.
  20. SAM-Activated-iTunes-iOS-4.3.5

  21. After syncing and backing up your iPhone, you should see an iTunes error 1651. Don't be alarmed because it's normal. Just ignore the error.
  22. iTunes-Error-1651

  23. Now to see if activation is successful, open the SAM app on your iPhone and tap on More Information menu. Check the ActivationState and if you see it as WildcardActivated, then you're done. Congratulations, your iPhone is now activated.
  24. SAM-WildcardActivated-iOS-4.3.5

  25. If you want to test if Push Notifications are working fine or not, download and install the iPusher app from the App Store. Launch the app and tap the Test Push Notifications button and if you see the Yay, push notifications work fine! message, then it means everything is A-OK. Take note that you need to be connected to a WiFi connection with an active internet connection before you can test Push Notifications using iPusher.
  26. Testing-Push-Notifications-on-iOS-4.3.5

NOTE: In case Push Notifications are still not working after installing SAM on iOS 4.3.5, then read this guide on how to fix them. Now if you encounter the "SIM Card Not Does Not Appear to be Supported" error in iTunes, just refer to this how-to guide.

Hi. Hope someone can help? Updated SAM via Cydia after prompt to do so and ‘froze’ my phone (4.3.3 06.15 3GS). Eventually had to rejailbreak (Redsnow/ultrasnow) to get it working again. Tried again, same problem! Phone now working after further JB, Push Doctor installed and working but now no longer have FaceIt (FaceTime) working. Had SAM and FaceTime working no problem before update – wildcard activated through SAM. Thanks.

yes! i use gevey sim. funny… i was able to use facetime when i first able to activate my iphone from itunes and then now, i can’t use anymore.

  •
    Prince4 years, 11 months ago

    Sam says it is activated.

    Ipusher says notification is alright.

When activating facetime, the message is stuck with “waiting for activation” and then the facetime will later turn off by itself.

You need to know to which carrier your device is actually locked to & then select it manually from the carrier list, country & SIM ID combination. Currently its not & so you need to set them up correctly. If you / anyone else has a legit carrier SIM, you can pop-it in & hook your device to iTunes for official activation.

Are you sure that sam has already an update? I checked the cydia and there is no update and if sam has really an update, well.. push doctor would be our last problem right after untethered jailbreak for ios5. Since then, we need to find ways to contact the creator of push doctor :-P

    •
      Pramod4 years, 11 months ago

SAM doesn’t need an update of its app. It only needs to update its stockify data for the iOS 5 which pretty much happens at the backend. So you really won’t get any notification from Cydia ofcourse. Also, @anethema is the creator of Push Doctor.

Does anyone know the twitter account of the creator of SAM so we can follow and check for updates

    •

Its @sbingner. Also, SAM just got updated for the iOS 5 as well. :D

SAM & Push Doctor isn’t updated for the iOS 5 just yet. So, you need to wait out until an update is pushed.

i installed everything. it works fine i did all the steps. push notifications for the social apps work for a bit and then stop. same goes for mail and google voice. i have to turn push notifications off and on. every 5-10 minutes in order for push notifications to work. it is so unstable. is there a permanent fix for stable push notifications?

  •
    lam5 years ago

is there a way to fix the social apps push notifications then? i am pretty sure google voices push notifications work. but im wondering why im not getting pushed anything. i restored my iphone to factory setting. and did all the steps all over again. it is still not fully working. mail will not push notifications either. does SAM give you legitimate push certificates?

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Yes ofcourse. SAM does give you unique certs. If SAM didn’t work for you, then you might want to try Anethema’s PushDoctor instead from here http://bit.ly/onPCps. Try it out as well.

Tried SAM and it did not work even after i followed instructions telling SAM the carrier bundle manually… when i uninstalled SAM my phone got stuck in emergency call mode… Fortunately i fixed emergency call mode by copying some files to my device’s LOCKDOWN folder using iFunBox…

Mhm, but its still a hacktivated iPhone.

  •
    lam5 years ago

hi there its me again, SAM seems to fix the iPhone Push notifications but it certainly does lag on it. sometimes its instantaneous. sometimes its a few minutes lates. and sometimes its a few hours late. it is so unstable that i still have to open up the social apps again. i was wondering why this was.

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Its the Social apps that’s at fault & not SAM. The push from social apps does have issues even for those who are officially activated with a legit SIM.

  •
    lam5 years ago

i uninstalled it, rebooted, then installed it. it worked for a few hours. i went to school and notifcations still worked. once i got home push notifcations stopped working.

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Check the push status for other default apps like Mails. If its working fine, then everything;s good. Social apps does have issues with push even for officially activated iPhones as well.

  •
    lam5 years ago

i used SAM and it is activated. Push notifications seems to be working for like a few minutes, afterwards push notifications stop. push notifications from im+ pro and google voice stop. iPusher push notification stops as well.

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Uninstall those social apps & reinstall them back after a reboot. It should work after that. Social apps are a headache even on officially activated iPhones, so its no biggie.

  •

How does battery life improve after activation through SAM?. And how much difference it makes in battery life?.

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

If your someone who doesn’t have the legit SIM, its for officially activating your iPhone with iTunes which doesn’t happen if you restore to custom hacktivated IPSW / JB with Redsn0w. For how much difference, try it out first & let us know about it.

  •
    Khan5 years ago

Will SAM work on software unlocked iphone 3gs that was hacktivated using ultrasn0w…it is not factory unlocked.ultrasn0w needs to be installed for cellular reception…

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Yes it will. SAM & Ultrasn0w are two totally unrelated topics.

  •
    Prince5 years ago

I might buy a rogers sim card and test it again. I’ll let you know the results.

  •
    prince5 years ago

when i uninstall my sam, it shows a message say “Diffferent sim card detected, please connect to itunes” and when i connect to itunes, it doesn’t regester my phone and i have to hacktivate my phone again or reinstall cydia >.<

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

You can backup your activation only if your Wildcard Activated. SAM does not have anything to backup if your still hacktivated. Probably SAM bundles may not be working that great for your Canadian carrier. Hacktivate your iPhone back by running Redsn0w ( w/o any of the options ticked ) for the iOS that your currently on.

    still can’t be done…
but i done this with the older sam,on 4.3.3 not in the 4.3.5?your tutorial is for ios 4.3.3 right?
then,i wanna ask you some opinion about the future of iphone 4 with software unlock in ios 5.is still worth?
because i’m give up for this.a friend of mine offer an unversal activation card.but,if gevey not work on ios 5.i’ll dead then.
maybe the push notification can be fix with pushdoctor, but what about the facetime?:(

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

PushDoctor does not have any certs available as of now. If your unlocked via Gevey, then you need to follow the steps mentioned here http://bit.ly/k7B3qN to get your FaceTime up & running. The Gevey interposer hole is long closed by Apple already in the iOS 5 betas & neither will iOS 5 support the Gevey once its public unless you have preserved your current 4.3.x BB & then update your iP4 to iOS 5.

@pramod dude! i got my iphone working. not because of the at&t sim card, but because of the phone is lock in rogers telecom, canada. really thanks for helping me out before. i have a question, why my iphone does not say WILDCARD ACTIVATED. Why it shows only activated although i was able to use now the facetime. and can’t i backup my activation state. and why when i’m restarting my phone, the states the there is mismatch iccid. can you help me resolve it? thank you very much

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Lol !! It was an Canadian iPhone after all.
Do you have the legit carrier SIM that came locked with your iPhone? If not, uninstall & reinstall SAM (along with ACUtils & SAMPrefs separately ) & reinstall the same to see if it resolves the issue.

is anyone used this for the Japan version???
because i try the last SAM for my MC603J iphone(japan version) on 4.3.3.it can’t recognize my simcard, and stil not wildcard activated

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Try making an IMSI starting with 440208 (change the first 6 digits of what it generates to that).
If everything fails, use PushDoctor right away as they have a large amount of certs ready to be used before it gets depleted.

hello,I notice that when I installed PushUtil, then SAM, ACUtill and SAMPrefs will remove instead. So I install SAM again and automatically remove PushUtil. I will try to connect my Iphone thru Itunes later and let you know what will come out. thanks a lot!

  •
    irome5 years ago

should i install akso PushUtil from cydia? thanks…

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

PushUtil is a dependency of SAM. Therefore, it installs automatically when you install the SAM package itself.

hi i have a iphone 3gs version 4.3.5 carrier at&t10.0 firmware 05.16.02 i bought like that i unlocked jailbreak but i can’t install sam to actived my phone i use t-mobile if i go to source edit add it say did not find repository can this firmware unlocked thanks

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

SAM never unlocks your iPhone. It only activates your iPhone with Apple officially in case you do not have the official SIM to which your iPhone was locked to. An unlock & an activation are 2 totally separate topics.

  •
    irome5 years ago

after i installed SAM, on utilities no revert lockdown to stock but instead only 3 items : backup activation, De-activate Iphone and Restore Activation. On More Informatio, it says: Activation state WildcardActivated. does it has any problem on why did not show the above info? should i connect this to itunes? thanks a lot!

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

As long as SAM states that its Wildcard Activated in its Activation state, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Everything’s good to go.

Hey i had previously activated my iphone via SAM push notifications working for 2-3 min if i used ipush test from app store then delay push notification are not working??how to fix it??
2ndly if i purchased an AT&T sim and my iphone is hactivated via SAM how i can officially activate it via AT&T sim without restoring??

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

If SAM states that its Wildcard Activated, then everything’s good in terms of Push. Avoid using apps like iPush Test & confirm if your push is actually working by using push dependent apps itself.

  •
    irome5 years ago

does it only applicable to IOS 4.3.5 as i have my iphone JB at IOS 4.3.3. Thanks a lot!

    •
      Pramod5 years ago

Nope !! SAM is good for any 4.3.x iOS versions.
