Unless you have been living in a cave with no electricity and access to the internet for the past few months, then you should be aware that Apple's update to its mobile operating system, iOS 5 is just around the corner. And when it comes to new major versions of iOS, one question pops into a jailbreak junky's mind. "Is it jailbreakable?" For the most part, yes. All iOS 5 betas have been jailbroken using popular jailbreak tools such as Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. But is it untethered? Well that's a different matter altogether.
While jailbreaks are possible with all versions of iOS 5 betas, they are only limited to tethered solutions. In case you don't know, tethered jailbreaks works similarly to untethered ones with regards to the benefits it can provide but with one major drawback. Each time your device shuts down or reboots, you have to plug it into your computer and boot it through a jailbreak program to bring it back to its jailbroken state. It is a major inconvenience and its pretty much the deciding factor why most people would prefer an untethered solution. If you are someone who's hoping for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, then we have some good news for you.
Famed jailbreak collective Chronic-Dev Team said that they are actively working on iOS 5. The entire team has supposedly found out that there are a couple of flaws and exploits in iOS 5 that could potentially advance the untethered jailbreak for the system. And of course, the team chooses to keep mum with regards to this particular matter and doesn't plan to release any sort of jailbreak tools for iOS 5 betas. Which of makes perfect sense because doing so will only tip off Apple and proceed to patch any exploits and flaws which renders the team's effort useless.
So if you have been craving for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 beta, then you are out of luck. The Chronic-Dev Team is most likely holding out until the final build of iOS 5 becomes publicly released before releasing a working untethered tool. So if you want to jailbreak your device under iOS 5, you will need to settle with either Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze. But on the brighter side of things, at least there is some sort of assurance that untethered jailbreak is possible in iOS 5. And the wait shouldn't be that long since iOS 5 is rumored to hit Gold Master status next week.
