The iOS has long become a legitimate gaming platform with genres and gameplay types that covers pretty much every everything. One of the most fun aspect of gaming is undoubtedly the multiplayer. It is simply typically more fun and challenging to play our games with other people. And with the advancement of smartphone technologies, we are now able to play our games pretty much anytime, anywhere. And with 3G and WiFi being available pretty much anywhere, it doesn't matter if your buddy shares the same room with you, in another state or in another country. Today we will be enumerating the best multiplayer games for your iPhone, iPad and iPad touch.
Words with Friends (Zynga)
This is Zynga's own take of the word game genre. It is basically a Scrabble clone but with one major twist which makes it the better version: the gameplay in Words With Friends is asynchronous. This means that your every move is saved in the cloud which means you will be able to play each game at your own pace. Just make your high-scoring triple letter word and the changes will reflect on your opponent's screen. Words with Friends will let you play up to 20 games at once, so you can take on your co-workers, family members and friends all at the same time. Just be sure to brush up on your vocabulary.
Buy Words with Friends from the iTunes App Store for $1.99.
Archetype (Villain LLC)
If you love online first person shooters like the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the Halo series and want your fragging fix on the iOS, then Archetype should be right down your alley. Archetype pits you in arena of 5 vs. 5 battles in over 13 varying maps using seven different weapons to annihilate the opposing team. This game has a neat matchmaking feature which automatically pairs you with people on the same skill level as you are. The developer Villain LLC are always adding new content like new maps and modes in order to keep things fresh.

This addictive line-drawing game was recently updated which adds a great new twist: multiplayer. That's right folks, you can now choose to fly solo or with a buddy over Apple's Game Center. Online multiplayer is enabled through Game Center although local games are supported as well via WiFi or Bluetooth. Flight Control even supports voice chat so basically you and your friend can shout at each other as to which plane to move or is about crash.

Real Racing 2 (Firemint)
The Real Racing series is pretty much the go-to games when it comes to the racing genre for the iOS. Real Racing 2 is definitely one of the best looking iOS games and possibly even the best racer on the platform. If you are confident about your racing skills, then this game will be able to accommodate you along with 15 other racers. Even if you are going to use local WiFi, you will still be able to host an 8 player game. Definitely deserves a spot in any racing fan's game library.

N.O.V.A. 2 (Gameloft)
Gameloft is known for bringing console style games into the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch although not all of them are exactly original in ideas. N.O.V.A. 2 is popularly known as Halo for iPhone which rings quite true. However, it is in no way an indication that it is a bad game. Much like Halo, while you can play a sweeping single-player campaign in N.O.V.A. 2, it is all about the frantic deathmatches which can be done locally or online. The game features a sizable chunk of modes, maps and warfare hardware for you to play with. As you win more matches, your rank goes up and giving your access to special perks and other unlockable goodies.
Buy N.O.V.A. 2 from the iTunes App Store for $6.99.
NBA Jam (Electronic Arts)
Well here's a treat for fans of sports games. If you have been gaming in the mid-90's, then this game needs no introduction. If you want your basketball game to over-the-top, unrealistic but all fun, then NBA Jam is a no brainer. When the game was launched in February, the multiplayer was oddly not integrated. Fortunately, it is now updated with local multiplayer through WiFi or Bluetooth, so now you can dunk on your friend's face and shout BOOMSHAKALAKA!!! We just hope that EA is planning to update the game with online multiplayer as well.
Buy NBA Jam from the iTunes App Store for $0.99.
Street Fighter IV: Volt (Capcom)
Want some dose of extreme pugilism for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch? Well, you certainly can't go wrong with Capcom's beloved fighting game franchise. Volt is basically a re-release of the Street Fighter 4 for the iOS but now with a new neat addition, multiplayer through WiFi or Bluetooth. Street Fighter IV: Volt has a huge roster of playable characters (17 total) for you to master. Fighting game fans should find a lot to love about this game. As far as mobile fighters go, this game should be right on top.
Buy Street Fighter IV: Volt from the iTunes App Store for $4.99 (Discounted till August 8).
Order & Chaos Online (Gameloft)
So let's get this out of the way, this game is basically a clone of World of Warcraft. It is so downright similar that I'm surprised Blizzard has thrown a lawsuit to Gameloft's way. But this only means that if you've been craving for the a similar WoW experience for the iOS, then Order & Chaos Online should be more than enough to whet your appetite. This game has the staple elements of a standard MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) like multiple classes, skill trees, tons of quests, unique loots and the ever present grinding. This also means that it pretty much has all the needed elements to be addictive. You might want to say goodbye to your social life after giving this game a try.
Buy Order & Chaos Online in the iTunes App Store for $6.99.
Call of Duty: Zombies (Activision)
If competitive multiplayer is not your thing, then this next entry should put you right into coop gameplay action. Call of Duty: Zombies is purely a coop FPS where you and your team take on wave after wave of zombies until you can't do so anymore. In order to improve your chances of survival the game allows you to setup basic defenses like sealing windows and doors with wooden boards. It's fast-paced gameplay combined with great visuals make this game one of the standout multiplayer titles. The only caveat is that it only supports multiplayer over WiFi, no 3G.
Buy Call of Duty: Zombies in the iTunes App Store for $4.99.
