Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook Elected as New CEO

If you have been following our blog for past couple of months, then you should know that we have been receiving a huge influx of reports regarding Apple's upcoming smartphone hit. But in a rather unexpected turn of events, a huge bombshell just dropped that is bound to shock the entire tech industry and sadden all Apple fanatics. We are sorry to inform you that Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO and considered to be the saving grace of the company for more than a decade, has resigned from his post as the CEO of the Cupertino company.

Steve Jobs
In this time of year when the tech world is supposedly treated to exciting news about upcoming Apple products, this decision of Steve Jobs to resign came as rather unexpected. The depressing news was brought into the world's attention through Apple's press release where it was announced that the iconic CEO is finally stepping down from his post. Along with Jobs' resignation, Apple also announced during the press release that the position will be succeeded by Tim Cook, former COO of the company, upon recommendation of Jobs himself. The resignation of Jobs and election of Tim Cook is effective immediately. In addition to the announcement, Apple has also released Jobs' resignation letter.

Letter from Steve Jobs:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Both the press release and the above resignation letter didn't provide any reason as to why Steve Jobs is leaving his post. But if you have been following the life of the man, you'll know that the most likely reason would be his health. Jobs suffered from pancreatic cancer to which he was able to recover from. But over the last decade, his health have been subjected to a state of deterioration and the industry have seen the man took his medical leave at least twice in order to recuperate.

Although Steve Jobs has stepped down as the fruit company's CEO, the board of directors was quick to elect him as Chairman. Although Jobs won't be as active in the company as before, it is expected that he will continue to provide his insights with regards to the direction that the company will be taking from now on. Apple has acknowledged Tim Cook as the rightful successor to Jobs' post following the former's 13 years of experience and outstanding service to Apple.

This is indeed quite a sad news especially for Apple fans, although we all know that this day will come. Fans can only hope that with the new management of Apple headed by Tim Cook, backed by Apple's brilliant team and the insights of Steve Jobs, continues to provide quality new products that will continue to shape the tech industry. Whether you love or hate the man, it is hard to deny Jobs' contribution to world of technology and that it just lost a true innovator, visionary and leader. Let's pour one out for Steve Jobs and we wish him all the best. [via Apple 1,2]
