As you may already have known, Apple just rolled out the sixth pre-release version of the iOS 5 about a few days ago. This version of iOS 5 beta offers not much in terms of new features but as usual several minor improvements and bug fixes were made in an effort to stabilize the system. And of course with every new iOS firmware release, one important question pops into one's mind: is it jailbreakable? Well, we are pleased to tell you that you'll be able to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6 with Sn0wbreeze.
Jailbreak developer iH8sn0w, creator of known tools such as iReb, iFaith and Sn0wbreeze, just announced that the updated version of Sn0wbreeze for Windows is now available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This updated version of Sn0wbreeze (Version 2.8b6) can be used to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6 to your iDevice. In addition to that, users who rely on Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM unlock for their iPhone 4 or 3GS will be able able to preserve their baseband using version 2.8. Sn0wbreeze v2.8b6 supports all devices except for the iPad 2.
Much like the previous versions of Sn0wbreeze as of late, this version also allows installation of iOS 5 beta 6 even without a registered UDID. Although we are not recommending it since there could be some complications that you could run into, and of course not to mention that installing firmware betas in a non-developer device is considered to be illegal. We highly suggest instead that you enroll for an account in Apple's iOS Dev Center for an affordable price of $99 per year. With a developer account, you'll be able to access iOS betas as soon as they are made available. Sn0wbreeze v2.8b6 will also remove the expiration date of iOS 5 beta 6.
Check out the full change log for Sn0wbreeze v2.8b6:
* Now jailbreaks iOS 5 beta 6.
* Still removes UDID Developer check + Beta timer.
* Still has the ability to hacktivate.
* Still preserves the baseband (as always!).
Supported Devices and Tethered?
* iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)…..NO
* iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)….YES
* iPhone 4 (GSM)…………..YES
* iPhone 4 (CDMA)………….YES
* iPod Touch 3G……………YES
* iPod Touch 4…………….YES
* iPad 1G…………………YES
It is important to keep in mind that this is a tethered jailbreak solution except for the iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), to which the tool will provide an untethered jailbreak. This means that if you turn off or reboot your device, you will be stuck in the Apple boot logo unless you run your device with the iBooty tool. Also it is worth noting that Sn0wbreeze v2.8b6 is currently for Windows only. The instructions for jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 6 to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using Sn0wbreeze is pretty much similar to previous methods, so just refer to our step-by-step guide.
iOS 5 is largely expected to be released this coming fall, more likely September. This much awaited upgrade to Apple's operating system offers more than 200 new features which includes iMessage, deep Twitter integration, Notifications Center and many more. The iOS 5 is also expected to be released with Apple's next iPhone which will most definitely come pre-loaded with the mobile operating system.
