Another day, another iPhone 5 rumor. And once again, we get another rumor regarding the most speculated aspect of the iPhone 5, which is its release date. We have reported here on numerous occasions that Apple's next major smartphone release will be around the month of September. The rumors and speculations were rather consistent that we were made to believe that the September release window is the most likely possibility. But according to a report from BGR, they have seen an internal document that points to October 1 as the possible launch date.
According to BGR, the internal document comes from Telus, a well-known Canadian phone carrier, which indicates that the release date of the iPhone 5 is in fact during October the 1st. One would argue that the 1st could just be a placeholder, but there have been additional details that points to the fact that it is not:
We have seen seen an internal Telus document that lists October 1st as the launch date, and while the first could just be a place holder, we do not believe that is the case in this instance. The document lists additional launch dates that are not placeholders — several of the listed dates line up with what we’re hearing from other trusted sources. The thing is, October 1st is a Saturday and Apple has historically released iPhones on either a Thursday evening or a Friday. Our source has indicated to us that Saturdays are the busiest day of the week for wireless retail stores, of course, and the source does not believe a Saturday launch is unrealistic.
Traditionally, all iPhone releases fall on a Thursday evening or Friday which makes it hard to believe that Apple will be releasing it on the 1st of October which is a Saturday. Although it would also make sense to have it released during the weekend because it is the busiest days in the stores, Apple seems to always like releasing the iPhone during weekdays. And the company doesn't have any reason to change that anytime soon. Which brings us to a conclusion that either the source is just mistaken or the said October 1st release date is merely an estimate.
We also have to keep into account that this particular rumor came from Canada where in tradition, lags behind the US when it comes to iPhone releases. The difference can be as long as several weeks except of course with the iPhone 3G and 3GS where Apple released both simultaneously in the US and Canada. If that's the case, if the October 1st release in Canada turns out to be true, then it only strengthens the possibility of the rumored September release in the US.
Yesterday we did made a report about the iPhone 5 debuting in October from sources who claims to be very familiar with Apple's plan. Although this one indicates that it will be a simultaneous release for both countries.
With this barrage of iPhone 5 release date rumors, there is simply no way of telling which is the most accurate date until of course, Apple makes the official announcement. We do know that the next iPhone will be unveiled by the time the first half of September hits.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
