If you are someone who's familiar with the jailbreaking scene for quite some time now, then you will have no doubt heard of Nicholas Allegra, otherwise popularly known as Comex by the community. Comex's credentials as a jailbreak hacker is no less than stellar. He is of course known as the author of one of the most popular and definitely the easiest to use jailbreak tool, JailbreakMe. A few hours ago, in one of his recent tweets, the jailbreak superstar just revealed he will be working as an intern at the company that he loves to hack, Apple.
As mentioned, the news was brought into our attention through Comex's official Twitter account. In his tweet, Comex related that he will be starting his internship with Apple a week after the next. Not much information have been given with regards to details of the internship but we did find out that he will be taking a leave from college to make way for this rare opportunity.
Taking into account the secretive nature of Apple's internal practices, the people may never find out what specific duty he will be performing over at the company. But the most likely reason why he was recruited was because of this excellent skill in detecting vulnerabilities inside Apple's mobile operating system. If that is the case, there's a possibility that future versions of iOS becomes a tougher nut to crack. As you all know, Apple have already been stepping up their game with regards to combating jailbreak solutions. With Comex being on board, it is highly possible Apple will be utilizing his skills to render future jailbreaks useless.
Some may see this as an act of betrayal towards the jailbreak community but surprisingly the community reacted quite positively, some even congratulated the famed jailbreak developer. Well, working with Apple should be in many people's aspiration and should be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Comex probably knows that working with Apple should let him discover new grounds and make better use of his talents as a developer.
So does this mean that there won't be any more future versions of JailbreakMe? Well, if Comex will be officially hired by Apple, it's possible that he will be abandoning the project altogether. As for the popular jailbreak tool, we're pretty sure that someone will be taking over the project. After all, Comex always sees to it that he releases the source code for each version of JailbreakMe. In case you don't know, JailbreakMe 3.0 is the first ever tool to effectively jailbreak the iPad 2 which was proven to be a difficult device to crack. Aside from that, it is also one of the easiest, if not the easiest method to jailbreak an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
This is not the first time that famed iOS jailbreakers was hired by large companies. Back in June we have reported that household name George Hotz aka GeoHot was hired by social networking behemoth, Facebook. Earlier that month as well, the developer of MobileNotifier Peter Hajas have also been hired to work with the revamped notification for the iOS 5. Whatever lies in front of Comex, we wish him the best of luck.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
