As you all know, Apple has revealed the next version of their mobile operating system which is the iOS 5 during their keynote presentation in WWDC last month. iOS fans were surely pleased as Apple previewed the iOS 5 along with its new features which gives an impression that it is shaping up to be the best iOS yet. As Apple reveals the new features of the iOS 5, one particular breed of social networking enthusiasts are treated with good news, the Twitter fans. This is because iOS 5 now have a system-wide integration with Twitter.
Despite the deeper integration of the Twitter into iOS, it somehow doesn't let you tweet directly from the home screen. You will still need to open the Twitter app for that. The good news is, there is now a tweak that allows you to send your tweets right from the springboard. The name of the tweak is TwitkaFly.
TwitkaFly is made by MoeSeth, who is a familiar name in the scene as he has already released some apps for the iTunes App Store as well as another unofficial tweak for Twitter called 140Plus which lets you tweet more than 140 characters. TwitkaFly is highly recommended for iDevice owners who loves Twitter.
TwitkaFly basically allows users to tweet or reply tweet from SpringBoard without needing to go through Twitter.app to tweet or reply.
As mentioned before, this tweak lets you send your tweet even from the springboard without having to open the Twitter app. In fact this tweak pretty much lets you tweet from anywhere because through an activator gesture, you can call the Twitter popup window and just tweet to your heart's content. In addition, with this tweak, whenever you get a Twitter mention, you will be presented with a notification and will be given an option to quickly reply to it. You can customize from which user you would like to receive a notification or you can completely blacklist them.
There are a few disadvantages however. Currently, TwitkaFly only supports one Twitter account at a time. Second, this tweak only works with the official Twitter App, so if you have a third party Twitter solution like Tweetbot, then it will not work. Keep in mind that this is a fairly new application so it is bound to have some drawbacks, so give it time and it is certain that the author will iron out its kinks.
With that said, TwitkaFly is a must have for iDevice owners who actively participates in Twitter. But keep in mind that since this is a tweak which is found in Cydia, you will need a jailbroken device before you can install this app. Also be reminded that this is an unofficial tweak which doesn't have the approval of Apple, so be sure that before attempting to set this up, you should at least know the basics of jailbreaking.
If you want help on how to jailbreak your device, then please refer to these guides on how to jailbreak your iDevice with iOS 4.3.3 using these tools: Redsn0w / Sn0wbreeze / PwnageTool / JailbreakMe. For iOS 5 beta: Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze.
Once you have a jailbroken device already, just head over to Cydia and search for TwitkaFly under the BigBoss repository. For a bonus, here's the demo video of the tweak:
