If you own an Android device, then chances are you are most likely familiar with a tweak called Swype. This tweak basically lets you type in your virtual keyboard without ever lifting your fingers, all you have to do is swipe your fingers across the keyboard letters in order to form a word and when you lift your fingers, you will see the word that you have type, or rather swiped. This is a very popular feature among Android fans because it can be a real time saver when you are typing on your device. Now we are pleased to inform you that this feature has finally made it into the iOS, although it is not exactly an official port yet.
So what exactly is Swype? Well according to the creators of Swype:
Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the patented technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods—at over 40 words per minute. The application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.
Although as stated before, the Swype in the iOS is currently an unofficial port although it seems to be working just as well. Take note that this is a tweak that can only be downloaded in Cydia so you will need to jailbreak your device before you can install this. Also keep in mind that this is currently a beta release so expect many bugs and problems while using it.
One of the problems that can be found while using this tweak is that it only works with native iOS apps, I've tried typing on Skype and it doesn't work. Another problem with Swype in the iOS is that Auto-Correct tends to kick in while you are swiping a word. Worse is that it doesn't even display the corrections, Auto-Correct just changes it automatically by the time the word is displayed.
If you would like to type the conventional way, then you can still do so even if Swype is installed in your device. Although you will most likely prefer to type by swiping as it can be huge time saver. It would be interesting to see how this particular tweak develops especially when the developer start ironing the kinks. We'll surely keep an eye on this one.
