If you have keeping up with our blog, then you are most likely aware that Apple has already made an update to iOS 4 dubbed as iOS 4.3.4 which fixes a critical security threat that can be found in Mobile Safari. iOS 4.3.4 is mainly a security update and doesn't offer much (or anything) in terms of features. Also just last week, Apple released an update for the iOS 5 pre-release version which is the iOS 5 beta 4. Now it seems that the iOS development team is quite on a roll these days as they released yet another firmware update for the iOS 4, which is dubbed as iOS 4.3.5.
According to the official support document of iOS 4.3.5, just like the iOS 4.3.4, the update is mainly for patching security issues:
Impact: An attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS
Description: A certificate chain validation issue existed in the handling of X.509 certificates. An attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS. Other attacks involving X.509 certificate validation may also be possible. This issue is addressed through improved validation of X.509 certificate chains.
As stated before, the iOS development team seems to rather busy lately. iOS 4.3.4 was meant to patch the PDF exploit that was used by Comex's JailbreakMe 3.0 tool. In addition to that, 4.3.4 also effectively killed the untethered jailbreak in general. Which means if you want to have the latest untethered jailbreak, then you will have to settle with iOS 4.3.3.
Needless to say, this update has nothing really substantial to offer for those who have already jailbroken their devices, especially those who are currently with iOS 4.3.3 and below with untethered jailbreak. But still it is quite admirable for Apple to release another incremental update in order to address a security issue, that is simply not something that you can expect from other smartphone companies. One can only assume that the level of security threat that Apple have patched must be highly critical.
For those who haven't jailbroken their device or those who have updated to iOS 4.3.4 have no reason not to install the iOS 4.3.5 firmware update. Just update your device through iTunes or you can simply use the direct downlinks of IPSWs that we have provided below:
