Yep, within hours after Steve Jobs unveiled the all new evolutionary iOS 5 at WWDC, the iPhone Dev-Team has managed to jailbreak it as well. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team has just posted pictures of his iPod 4G running Cydia and iSSH teminal. All thanks to Geohot's limera1n bootrom exploit, iOS 5 is only a piece of cake. :)
Don't believe it ? Have a closer look at the NewsStand & Reminders apps on the homescreen. MuscleNerd was able to jailbreak the Beta 1 version of the iOS 5 that is available for developers only. As of now, the jailbreak is still tethered, which means you'll still need to hook your iDevice to a computer to bring it back to life if you ever shut it down. In his initial rounds of testing, MuscleNerd was able to get the SSH utility termed iSSH up and running flawless on his iPod 4G. Cydia seems to be perfect as well. Speculations had rose earlier if the OTA delta updates from Apple would forever break the possibility of any future jailbreaks each time a new update arrives from Apple.
Update via MuscleNerd:
You heard the man :)
Apple released its evolutionary iOS 5 yesterday at the WWDC, 2011. iOS 5 promises users with more than 200 new features built right into it. All new Notifications System, system wide Twitter Integration, revamped Camera app, Safari browser with tabbed browsing, Newsstand, Reading Lists, Reminders, Mail updates, built-in dictionary, Wi-Fi Sync with iTunes, OTA software updates, updates to Game Center, iMessage, AirPlay mirroring (for iPad) are just a few of the lot presented by Steve at the keynote.
Apple has changed nothing with the iOS 5 release, so make sure you have saved your SHSH blobs as and when an iOS update pops up in iTunes. This gives you a good chance to downgrade back to an ealier version of the iOS if in case you get stuck with a tethered JB. All you need to do is wait for a tethered jailbreak to come by.
