Apple is Now The Owner of iCloud.com, iCloud Ready To Go

With the announcement of Apple's new cloud storage service iCloud, there have been rumors and speculations during the past weeks that Apple will be buying the iCloud.com domain. But it seems that Apple has finally finalized the deal and acquired ownership of the said domain for a staggering amount of $4.5 million.

Apple iCloud
Prior to the Apple's acquisition of the domain, iCloud.com was registered to a person named Xcerion, who is found out to be a Swedish hybrid cloud provider. If you're going to do a quick lookup of WHOIS registry information of iCloud.com, this is what you will see:

Registrant:
Apple Inc.
ATTN ICLOUD.COM
care of Network Solutions
PO Box 459
Drums, PA. US 18222
Domain Name: ICLOUD.COM
Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Apple Inc. ***********@networksolutionsprivateregistration.com
ATTN ICLOUD.COM
care of Network Solutions
PO Box 459
Drums, PA 18222
US
570-708-8780
Record expires on 15-Jan-2018.
Record created on 18-Dec-2007.

Now with Apple owning the domain, this could only mean that they will be able to gain full control of the domain and have it redirected to their own website. As of this writing, iCloud.com still redirects to Xcerion's cloud storage service which was renamed to Cloudme.com. It is also interesting to note that Apple is also the registered owner of iCloud.org.

With this, it seems that Apple is ready to go full throttle about this new cloud storage service which is said to replace or expand upon their current MobileMe offering. Apple has already confirmed that they will be unveiling iCloud next week at WWDC.

What do you think of this new service by Apple?
