Valve’s Gabe Newell Thinks Online ‘Jerks’ Should Pay More For Their Games

PC gaming goliath Valve have announced that it is more interested in altering their payment services than how it can improve its gaming technology, saying that online JERKS should have to pay more for games they purchase with Valve.

Valve CEO Gabe Newell
After being asked if Valve will be pushing its Source Engine, Valve's CEO Gabe Newell changed the subject and stated that he is in favour of creating the best value for customers and moving on to an entirely different purchasing system that is completely different to the one the current gaming industry has.

Newell went on to say that the gaming industry's purchasing model is 'broken' and that it is wrong that every customer should have to pay the same set price for a game.

He envisioned a system that creates an optimal pricing service for each customer. He gave an example that said that customers would be charged on how fun they are to play with. Good guys get discounts, bad guys pay more.

We should have a way of capturing that. We should have a way of rewarding the people who are good for our community, he explained.

He then went on to give another example - if someone who has behaved well and has been a respectable player in Team Fortress 2 then they will receive games like Dota 2 for free. However, someone who has been a dislikeable player and one who is generally shunned by other players will have to pay more than full price.

Somehow I don't think anything will ever become of this, but i do respect the guy for having the balls to come out and say something crazy like that. [via CVG]
