Chris Simpson (@apocolipse269), 3DBoard's developer is back with a new app that will change the way you unlock your iPhone. RecognizeMe, an upcoming Cydia tweak, is a biometric facial recognition security tweak that'll enable you to unlock your iPhone 4 using the front camera. This mod allows you to unlock your iPhone 4 by scanning your facial features with the front-facing camera and verifies who you are before giving you access.
RecoganizeMe even has a YouTube video which shows off this tweak. Check out the video below:
This app does take some time for the verification process to complete before a successful unlock but promises to boost the security level of your device one step ahead. Once installed, RecoganizeMe adds an extra button to your lock screen allowing the user to choose the desired mode of unlock. When you slide to unlock, the passcode entry screen comes up and at the top it gives you an option to use RecognizeMe. It even allows users to change the strictness of the verification process within the settings of RecoganizeMe varying from 0% (Not Secure) all the way upto a 100% (Very Secure).
First time users are subjected to Face Trainer. The face trainer will create different face sets of the intended user for an accurate registration of his facial features into a database. It makes 3 training sets, 1 with low light, 1 with medium light and 1 with bright light (not too bright). It then utilizes the front camera of the iPhone 4 to recoganize who is it actually looking at and makes use of a pre-defined database against which the facial features of the person standing in front of the camera is verified. If successful, access is granted and if not the user is directed back to the default lock screen mode for PIN entry. This will be the first time a facial recognition feature, may it be a Cydia tweak, is being tried out on Apple's iPhone hardware.
A biometric security feature is something Cydia users would surely want to try out with RecoganizeMe, which is also first of its kind. More such biometric harnessed tweaks are sure to follow this by other RecognanizeMe inspired developers. RecognizeMe will be hitting Cydia within the next 24 hours with a price tag of $6.99 for the first 3 weeks and $9.99 thereafter. Unfortunately, it is only compatible with the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G for now (or any iDevice with a front facing camera). If you have ever wanted to unlock your iPhone in James Bond style then this is something for you :PContact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
